A Colorado Rockies<\/a> pitcher is taking his talents across the Pacific.<\/p>\n

That’s Roansy Contreras, who has signed a new contract in Japan.<\/p>\n

The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles announced Thursday that they’ve signed Contreras to play in Nippon Professional Baseball.<\/p>\n

Contreras was most recently with the Rockies, but they had announced his release earlier Thursday, preceding this move.<\/p>\n

The righty reliever has spent portions of five seasons in the big leagues between the Pirates, Angels, Orioles and Rockies.<\/p>\n

Contreras was once a promising prospect in the Yankees system who was traded for Jameson Taillon.<\/p>\n

In his first 22 big league games, Contreras allowed 40 runs in 98 innings, a solid 3.67 ERA.<\/p>\n

It hasn’t been as good since then. Contreras now holds a 4.77 career ERA.<\/p>\n

He pitched one game for Baltimore in 2025, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings.<\/p>\n

Then he threw in four games for the Rockies and gave up eight runs in 8.1 innings.<\/p>\n

Contreras just turned 26 years old earlier in November, so there’s certainly a path back stateside for him if he wants it down the road.<\/p>\n

For now, the Dominican right-hander heads to Japan to continue his baseball career.<\/p>\n
