Cadillac will give its first Formula 1 car a maiden run before the Barcelona pre-season test, which is taking place from 26-30 January, provided everything goes to plan.<\/p>\n

Sergio Perez<\/a> and Valtteri Bottas<\/a>\u2019 Ferrari-powered machine is set for an initial engine fire-up \u201cin less than 50 days\u201d, team principal Graeme Lowdon said on Friday at the Brazil Grand Prix \u2013 in other words, before Christmas.<\/p>\n

The car\u2019s first track test \u2013 likely a shakedown sanctioned by the \u2018Promotional Event\u2019 regulations \u2013 is scheduled for January. Cadillac could then cover up to 200km with its new machinery.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is on schedule,\u201d Lowdon said. \u201cIn fact, we\u2019ll fire up the engine for the first time in less than 50 days, and the car will run for the first time in January next year. After that, we\u2019ll go testing at the end of January in Barcelona.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Briton did acknowledge that meeting all deadlines would be no easy feat for Cadillac, with the team\u2019s preparations well under way at its US and UK bases.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime is the enemy in a project like this, because we know we\u2019ll be racing in Melbourne the first week of March 2026, and that deadline can\u2019t be extended,\u201d Lowdon added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so much to do. Our entry was only confirmed in March 2025, so the margin is very tight. In that time, we must not only build the car but also manufacture it, design it, hire personnel, build the factories \u2013 everything. It\u2019s a real challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Initiated as Andretti, the Cadillac project took years to be green-lighted by both the FIA and F1, and the team\u2019s debut ends up coinciding with next year\u2019s major technical overhaul in regulations \u2013 which Lowdon says \u201cthere are pros and cons\u201d about.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe downside is that when the rules are stable, you clearly know what your target is, because today, for example, we know McLaren<\/a> is competitive, and so is Ferrari<\/a>,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut for 2026, no one knows who will be fast. The disadvantage is that you don\u2019t have a clear reference point, but well, this is sport, and that\u2019s what keeps the fans engaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe advantage for us is that with this major regulation change, all teams face a new challenge, including ours. No one knows where they\u2019ll be. If you ask any team principal, they won\u2019t know either. That\u2019s the exciting part: we don\u2019t know where we\u2019ll be.<\/p>\n
