\n But a new batch of emails from Epstein\u2019s estate, released this week by the House Oversight Committee, adds fresh detail to a relationship that has long been scrutinized.\n <\/p>\n
\n The newly released messages don\u2019t fundamentally rewrite the known history between Trump and Epstein, but they do introduce three notable new elements:\n <\/p>\n
Epstein\u2019s claim that Trump \u201cspent hours\u201d with a trafficking and rape victim inside his home, who House Republicans on Wednesday identified<\/a> as the late Virginia Giuffre \u2014 one of Epstein\u2019s most prominent victims. Giuffre died<\/a> by suicide in April. She never implicated Trump in any wrongdoing in her book or public comments. Epstein was referring to Trump in the 2011 email with his longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>, who was convicted of sex trafficking after Epstein\u2019s 2019 death<\/a>.<\/p>\n Epstein\u2019s assertion<\/a> that Trump \u201cknew about the girls\u201d – seemingly in reference to Trump\u2019s claim that he kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club for poaching young women who worked there<\/p>\n And Epstein\u2019s blunt private assessments of Trump during his first term as President.<\/p>\n \n \u201cI told everyone from day one. evil beyond belief, mad, \u201d Epstein wrote<\/a> of Trump in March 2018. \u201che feels alone. and is nuts !!!\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n CNN\u2019s review<\/a> of thousands of pages of Epstein\u2019s emails shows that Trump was one of the figures he returned to often. Across exchanges with lawyers, journalists, business contacts and familiar acquaintances, Epstein repeatedly invoked Trump \u2014 sometimes to offer analysis of his behavior, sometimes to gossip, and sometimes simply to position himself as someone with rare insight into the man who had become president.\n <\/p>\n \n The emails suggest that Trump remained a fixation for Epstein, as he\u2019s frequently mentioned numerous times over a span of nearly a decade \u2014 including long after their friendship ended.\n <\/p>\n \n In the 2011 email to Maxwell, Epstein described Trump as the \u201cdog that hasn\u2019t barked.\u201d It\u2019s unclear what he\u2019s referring to.\n <\/p>\n \n In a December 2015 email, Epstein wrote to author Michael Wolff about how Trump might handle questions about his past relationship with Epstein. Trump at the time was running for President.\n <\/p>\n \n In February 2017, in an email to former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Epstein wrote of Trump, \u201ci have met some very bad people ,, none as bad as trump. not one decent cell in his body.. so yes \u2013 dangerous.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n The White House has forcefully rejected the suggestion that Trump knew about Epstein\u2019s activities.\n <\/p>\n \n White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said<\/a> the emails \u201cprove absolutely nothing\u201d and repeated their claim that Trump expelled Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, a point Epstein seemingly referenced in the newly released emails.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201ctrump said he asked me to resign, never a member, ever,\u201d Epstein wrote<\/a> in January 2019.\n <\/p>\n \n On Friday, Trump accused<\/a> Democrats of trying to revive attention to his past ties with Epstein and said he will ask Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Epstein\u2019s ties to other high-profile figures.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cI will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social.\n <\/p>\n \n The emails also capture Epstein\u2019s unvarnished impressions of Trump during his first presidential term, often mixing gossip, analysis, claims of insider insight, and blunt assessments.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cyour world does not understand how dumb he really is,\u201d he wrote<\/a> of Trump in a 2017 email. \u201che will blame everyone around him.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n It was a remarkable turn for two former close friends.\n <\/p>\n \n The two moved in the same Palm Beach and Manhattan circles in the 1990s and early 2000s \u2014 flying together on private jets, attending parties at Mar-a-Lago, appearing at Victoria\u2019s Secret runway shows; their friendship documented in flight logs, phone messages, photos and video. In 1993, Epstein attended Trump\u2019s wedding to Marla Maples, according to photos previously uncovered<\/a> by CNN.\n <\/p>\n \n Epstein once called<\/a> Trump his \u201cclosest friend for 10 years,\u201d a characterization echoed by several people in their orbit.\n <\/p>\n \n The relationship eventually fractured.\n <\/p>\n \n Trump has since dismissed<\/a> Epstein as a \u201ccreep\u201d he expelled from his club. By 2004, Trump and Epstein had a well-known falling out, reportedly tied to a dispute over a Palm Beach mansion both men wanted to buy at auction.
