{"id":283626,"date":"2025-11-15T00:30:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T00:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/283626\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T00:30:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T00:30:07","slug":"man-fell-to-his-death-in-square-one-parking-garage-siu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/283626\/","title":{"rendered":"Man fell to his death in Square One parking garage: SIU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The province\u2019s police watchdog is investigating after an 18-year-old man fell to his death in the parking garage of Square One Shopping Centre on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said <a href=\"https:\/\/siu.on.ca\/siu-investigating-death-of-man-in-mississauga-en10801\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/siu.on.ca\/siu-investigating-death-of-man-in-mississauga-en10801\">in a news release on Friday<\/a> that it invoked its mandate as a Peel Regional Police officer was on the scene at the time of the man\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police were initially called about a man in distress who was going to Square One.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The SIU said an officer located the man in the parking garage around 2:20 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cA short time later, the man fell from the parking garage to the ground below. First aid was provided, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene,\u201d the SIU said in its release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The agency noted an autopsy was conducted on Thursday. It has assigned two investigators and a forensic investigator to the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The SIU added that one subject official has been designated.
