Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald has written to the Minister for Social Protection to arrange an “urgent meeting” with a delegation of Waterford Crystal pensioners.<\/p>\n
The plight of the former Crystal workers was also raised on the floor of the D\u00e1il yesterday by Deputy David Cullinane.<\/p>\n
The developments follow the Crystal workers meetings last week with opposition parties and party leaders at Leinster House, in a bid to end their pension dispute that has stretched on for decades.<\/p>\n
Mary Lou McDonald, who was one of the TDs who met with the workers, has subsequently sent correspondence to the Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, seeking a meeting.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, during D\u00e1il debates yesterday, Deputy David Cullinane addressed the Minister directly.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cMy party leader has written to the Minister on behalf of this group of workers. A group of them want to meet him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have very clear demands that the State accepts failure in this regard. Yes, the company failed, but so too did the State. They want compensation and they want an apology.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that is the very least that group of workers deserve.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
