That depends on how cool you are with movies that endlessly explain themselves? If you want a movie you don\u2019t actually have to pay attention to while you watch it, critics seem to argue that Now You 3 Me is the threequel for you. Reviews note how stupid the entire franchise is and how completely not paradigm-shifting this third installment is in that regard. It is young, dumb, and full of magic tricks. And absurd explanations for said magic tricks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmhzjsio2002h3b78ypvg0psx@published\" data-word-count=\"90\">Critics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2013\/05\/why-movies-about-magicians-dont-work.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have never been into<\/a> the Now You See Me franchise, but that hasn\u2019t stopped audiences. Both NYSM 1 and NYSM 2 crossed the $300 million mark. And NYSM:NYD (an acronym that looks like a spinoff of Adult Swim faux-procedural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2012\/11\/not-in-my-san-diego-how-ntsfsdsuv-has-perfectly-captured-my-hometown.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NTSF:SD:SUV::<\/a>) is tracking along similar lines, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/box-office-now-you-see-me-3-running-man-predator-badlands-1236617534\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">projected opening<\/a> of $20 million. So if you too want to clap at the shiny lights and not really worry about things like \u201cplot\u201d or \u201cthe rules of physics,\u201d Now You See Me: Now You Don\u2019t may be the movie for you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmhzj5mc8000y3b784sr3c54p@published\" data-word-count=\"68\">\u201cIn the\u00a0Now You See Me\u00a0movies, the so-called explanations for the big tricks are even more ridiculous than the tricks themselves; they\u2019re not built on the characters\u2019 skill or determination or cleverness, but on narrative convenience and screenwriter contrivance. These films are anti-magic: They quash the wonder of both a perfectly executed trick and its\u00a0oh wow\u00a0reveal. (This also makes them bad heist movies, by the way.)\u201d \u2014Bilge Ebiri, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/review-now-you-see-me-now-you-dont-the-dumbest-franchise.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vulture<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmhzjd388001q3b78000gi2nx@published\" data-word-count=\"137\">\u201cNow You See Me: Now You Don\u2019t could use a Soderbergh-like touch behind the camera, someone with a flair for pulling off scams so sly and presentationally appealing that their absurdities may as well be actual magic. Instead, it has director Ruben Fleischer, an Eisenberg pal from two Zombielands who also made the weightless smashes Venom and Uncharted. In other words, someone about as good as his material allows. As in the previous Now You See Mes, the filmmakers (including a small army of credited screenwriters) prefer nudges and excited backslapping to sly winks. This means that the mechanics of the broader heists are ultimately explained, however unconvincingly, while smaller tricks that are supposed to testify to the Four\/Eight\/However Many Horsemen\u2019s more specific skill sets might as well emanate from the Fantastic Four.\u201d \u2014Jesse Hassenger, The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/nov\/11\/now-you-see-me-now-you-dont-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guardian<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"www.vulture.com\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cmhzjkjbs001z3b78gnavefmk@published\" data-word-count=\"120\">\u201cOne of the things that\u2019s slightly cheesy about the Now You See Me movies, in a highly likable way, is that you can practically hear the pitch meeting they came out of in which someone said, \u2018Let\u2019s cross The Prestige with the Ocean\u2019s films and a dash of Magic: Impossible!\u201d But the pleasurable thing about the NYSM movies is that you can never totally pin down where they\u2019re going. They always pull the ground out from under the rug out from under the audience. Well, that\u2019s what\u00a0Now You See Me\u00a0is for, a movie composed entirely of explicable distractions, ones that\u2019ll never upset you or alarm you or even, truly, surprise you.
