{"id":285874,"date":"2025-11-16T02:05:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T02:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/285874\/"},"modified":"2025-11-16T02:05:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T02:05:07","slug":"raptors-scottie-barnes-reaches-5000-career-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/285874\/","title":{"rendered":"Raptors&#8217; Scottie Barnes reaches 5,000 career points"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/basketball\/nba\/players\/scottie-barnes\/1738927f-6ef3-4b23-921d-168b4371f917\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"1738927f-6ef3-4b23-921d-168b4371f917\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Scottie Barnes<\/a> has joined an exclusive club amongst all-time Raptors greats.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth-year forward eclipsed 5,000 career points on Saturday night, doing so in 289 games, which was tied with Kyle Lowry for the third-fastest to do it in a Raptors jersey.<\/p>\n<p>He reached the milestone with a pair of free throws midway through the second quarter against the Indiana Pacers.<\/p>\n<p>Only Vince Carter (204 games) and Chris Bosh (279) reached 5,000 points faster in a Raptors uniform than Barnes.<\/p>\n<p>He is also just the fourth player in franchise history to reach that mark by age 24, joining Carter, Bosh and DeMar DeRozan<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the latest accomplishment for the former fourth-overall pick by Toronto in 2021. Since then, Barnes has won 2021-22 Rookie of the Year and earned his first all-star nod in Year 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida State product looks well on his way to more accolades this season, averaging 20.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks on 50.5\/42.9\/79.5 per cent shooting splits through 12 games.<\/p>\n<p>Barnes, the longest tenured Raptor currently on the roster, has led the team to a 7-5 start, including six wins in their last seven games.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s not far off from cracking the top 10 for points in franchise history, sitting in 11th and inching closer to Jose Calderon, who&#8217;s 5,235 points for the Raptors rank just above Barnes.
