Kelly McMichael was among the big winners at MusicNL’s annual awards gala Saturday night, taking home album of the year and Alternative Artist of the Year. <\/p>\n
Deantha Edmunds, Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts, XIA-3 and Quote the Raven also won two awards each.<\/p>\n
Over the past week, Newfoundland and Labrador’s musicians have convened in St. John’s for networking, showcases and presentations as part of MusicNL week. <\/p>\n
MusicNL Executive Director Tamara Kater told CBC on Saturday that awards were also given out throughout the week. She says the awards are important for local artists. <\/p>\n
“They are able to celebrate themselves and the work that they’ve done,” she said. “To get nominated alone is just really a statement about the work that you’ve you’ve done.”<\/p>\n
