The brutal finish prompted Nickal to open up about the darker side of prizefighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cI feel bad for Beneil, he\u2019s a good guy, but yeah, it\u2019s a crazy sport,\u201d Nickal said. \u201cThat\u2019s honestly to me one of the worst parts about what we do \u2014 having to hurt other people, do damage to people. We\u2019re taking years off each other\u2019s lives. It\u2019s sad, but it\u2019s part of it. For me, it\u2019s the strategy, the discipline, the commitment \u2014 that\u2019s why I love this sport, and how difficult it is to be the best in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Nickal continued, \u201cHurting other people, it really doesn\u2019t \u2026 it\u2019s one of the downsides of this sport in my mind. I know people like it, but in my mind it\u2019s not very fun. It\u2019s sad, but it is what we signed up for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Nickal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2019\/4\/28\/18521253\/rory-macdonald-questions-bellator-future-after-conversation-god-during-jon-fitch-fight\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">isn\u2019t quite entering full Rory MacDonald territory<\/a>, but his perspective is understandable. Coming from the ultra-competitive world of NCAA wrestling \u2014 where victory doesn\u2019t require damage \u2014 the brutality of MMA remains an adjustment.
