Hopefully, in seven to 10 days, he’s back on the floor.”<\/p>\n Editor’s Picks<\/p>\n 2 Related<\/p>\n Davis originally targeted the Nov. 8 road game against the Washington Wizards<\/a> — the Mavs’ lone win in November — as his return date. That plan was overruled by Mavs governor Patrick Dumont, sources told ESPN.<\/p>\n Days later, Dumont made it clear during a meeting with people involved with Davis’ care that he would not approve the 10-time All-Star’s return<\/a> until he was provided medical metrics that indicated there was no risk of aggravating the calf strain or suffering a related, potentially catastrophic injury, sources said.<\/p>\n In doing so, Dumont sided with Mavs director of health and performance Johann Bilsborough’s urging to take a cautious approach over the clearance from Davis’ personal medical staff, which was added to the team’s payroll this season.<\/p>\n One major concern is that Davis could rupture his left Achilles tendon if he rushes back before the calf strain is fully recovered, as Indiana Pacers<\/a> superstar Tyrese Haliburton<\/a> did during the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n Davis has played in only 14 games, plus a couple of play-in outings, as the headliner in the return package of the controversial Luka Doncic<\/a> trade, which eventually led to Mavs general manager Nico Harrison’s firing<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Davis was recovering from an abdominal injury at the time of the trade. With Harrison under fire, Davis rushed back to play in the Mavs’ first home game after the deal, dominating the first half of a win over the Houston Rockets<\/a> before suffering an adductor strain that was related to his previous injury.
