Billy Joel put an end to rumors that he\u2019s had several DUIs in his new HBO documentary, \u201cBilly Joel: And So It Goes.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, along with fame comes a lot of gossip, rumors. I didn\u2019t like the tabloid kind of press,\u201d the \u201cPiano Man\u201d singer shared, per People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, there\u2019s this rumor that I have all these DUIs. That never happened, but people keep repeating the myth: \u2018Oh, he\u2019s got so many DUIs.\u2019 I never had a DUI, so f\u2013k you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joel, 76, was involved in several car crashes, including in June 2002, when he was airlifted to a hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He experienced additional accidents in January 2003 and April 2004.<\/p>\n

In 2013, the hitmaker attempted to clear up DUI rumors, telling the New York Times Magazine<\/a> that the collisions were due to \u201cmental fog\u201d and had \u201cnothing to do with the booze.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI never had a DUI in my life. That\u2019s another fallacy. Look at the police records,\u201d he said. \u201cMy mind wasn\u2019t right. I wasn\u2019t focused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joel explained he \u201cwent into a deep, deep depression\u201d after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, there\u2019s this rumor that I have all these DUIs. That never happened, but people keep repeating the myth: \u2018Oh, he\u2019s got so many DUIs.\u2019 I never had a DUI, so f\u2013k you,\u201d he added. HBO<\/p>\n

\u201c9\/11 just knocked the wind out of me, and I don\u2019t know even now if I\u2019ve recovered from it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really, really hurt that man could do that to man. And then there was a breakup with somebody, and it took me a while to get me back on my feet again,\u201d Joel said.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the two-part documentary, the \u201cUptown Girl\u201d singer admitted he attempted suicide<\/a> after cheating with the wife of his friend and fellow\u00a0Attila member, Jon Small.<\/p>\n

The musician recalled falling \u201cin love\u201d with Elizabeth Weber while he lived in the couple\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

In June 2002, he was airlifted to a hospital after crashing his car. Redferns<\/p>\n

Weber recalled their romance in the doc, claiming that Joel felt \u201clike a homewrecker\u201d and \u201cvery, very guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just in a lot of pain,\u201d Joel chimed in. \u201cIt was sort of like why hang out, tomorrow is going to be just like today is and today sucks. So, I just thought I\u2019d end it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joel\u2019s sister, Judy Molinari, claimed she once gave the \u201cHonesty\u201d singer sleeping pills which he consumed. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was in a coma for days and days and days. I went to go see him in the hospital, and he was lying there\u00a0white as a sheet. I thought that I\u2019d killed him,\u201d Molinari said.<\/p>\n

Joel later checked into a ward and learned to turn his emotions into music.<\/p>\n

The singer reconciled with Small and ultimately married Weber in 1973.<\/p>\n
