\n Ariana Grande stepped up for her costar Cynthia Erivo on the red carpet Monday night at the \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d premiere in New York City.\n <\/p>\n

\n Ahead of the event, organizers reportedly<\/a> told members of the press that the two stars would not be doing interviews because Erivo had lost her voice. They did, however, manage to stop by the official E! livestream<\/a>, where the pair popped in for a brief chat with host Justin Sylvester.\n <\/p>\n

\n Only Grande was handed a microphone to respond to his questions, noting at one point in reference to Erivo, who was standing right next to her: \u201cI\u2019m not letting her speak. She has to rest her voice!\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n As Erivo looked on smiling, Grande went on to comment on the pair\u2019s joint Grammy nomination \u2013 they are nominated for best pop duo\/group performance<\/a> for \u201cDefying Gravity\u201d at next year\u2019s music awards \u2013 as well as Erivo\u2019s upcoming solo album and book titled \u201cSimply More.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cAm I doing OK?\u201d Grande asked Erivo jokingly as she plugged her costar\u2019s projects. Erivo nodded, laughing.\n <\/p>\n

\n When they were asked about the emotions they\u2019re feeling as the conclusion to last year\u2019s Oz-set film<\/a> approaches, Grande said she assumed they were experiencing the same thing \u2013 \u201coverwhelming gratitude.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s been such an incredible ride and an incredible experience to create with people we love so much and respect so much creatively, but also who just have such great hearts,\u201d she said.\n <\/p>\n

\n The \u201cYes, And\u201d singer added that they are excited for the public to \u201cfinally be able to get the full story, the full arc of these women that we love so much, and have spent these years with.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n At that point, Erivo leaned in to whisper something to Grande, but she had trouble hearing her. So Erivo briefly spoke into the mic in a raspy voice.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s really beautiful that we\u2019re finishing here, where it started,\u201d she said, referencing New York City, which is home to the Gershwin theater, where the Tony-winning \u201cWicked\u201d musical debuted in 2003 and is still playing on Broadway.\n <\/p>\n

\n The stars of the film have had an action-packed<\/a> press tour to say the least.\n <\/p>\n

\n Earlier on Monday, an Australian serial intruder who accosted Grande during the \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d premiere in Singapore was sentenced to 9 days in jail for being a public nuisance.\n <\/p>\n

\n Grande and Erivo, who play Glinda and Elphaba, did not speak about the incident at the New York premiere, but Grande referenced the taxing press tour.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThere\u2019s only so much the human body can endure,\u201d she said, assuring viewers that Erivo was \u201cthroat-coating.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
