As part of the upcoming 50th anniversary reissue<\/a> of Wish You Were Here, all nine parts of Pink Floyd<\/a>\u2019s \u201cShine On You Crazy Diamond\u201d have been released as one continuous 25-minute piece for the first time ever.<\/p>\n

Wish You Were Here 50\u00a0will arrive on December 12th, and include a number of rarities and bonus material across various formats. Among the highlights is this complete version of \u201cShine On You Crazy Diamond,\u201d which originally appeared as two halves bookending the classic 1975 album, with Parts I-V as the first track, and Parts VI-IX as the closing track.<\/p>\n

\u201cShine On You Crazy Diamond\u201d was written as a tribute to the band\u2019s original lead singer Syd Barrett, and the recording of the tune took on even more lore when the reclusive Barrett actually visited the band at Abbey Road Studios as the final mixes of the track were taking place.<\/p>\n

The new \u201cShine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-9, New Stereo Mix)\u201d can be heard below in an accompanying music video featuring a painting by comedian, actor and artist Noel Fielding. The artwork is a portrait of Barrett, with Fielding noting:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was pretty young when my affinity with Pink Floyd and Syd started. I remember going to the library and hiring the tape of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn when I was 12. And I just was like, \u2018What\u2019s this?\u2019 It blew my mind. I couldn\u2019t believe it. When I started doing stand up it was all very whimsical. I was always trying to write like I was Syd Barrett. I liked his style, I liked his walk, I liked the way he talked. \u2018Shine On You Crazy Diamond\u2019 is such a beautiful tribute to him.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s amazing about Pink Floyd, especially with Wish You Were Here, is that the artwork was as good as the music. When you\u2019re 12 and you\u2019re seeing two guys shaking hands, one of them\u2019s on fire, you\u2019re thinking \u2018what?!\u2019 And the music goes exactly with that as well; it\u2019s perfectly in sync with the visuals, with the weird surrealism. And that\u2019s all very Syd Barrett. It could be the \u201970s, but it could be 2040. It\u2019s the future and the past at the same time. It is a masterpiece, that album cover, and that album. It\u2019s a masterpiece. And it\u2019s based on Syd Barrett, who is a walking masterpiece.\u201d<\/p>\n
