Emma Raducanu<\/a> is the British No. 1 again after a barnstorming start to her hardcourt season. The Brit reached the semi-finals of the Citi Open<\/a> in both singles and doubles, with Elena Rybakina<\/a>, and has been rewarded for her displays by overtaking Katie Boulter<\/a> in the WTA<\/a> rankings.<\/p>\n

Raducanu has now won 21 tour matches in 2025, her highest tally in a single season, and gained the necessary 195 points to reach world No. 33 in the rankings. She moved up 13 places and is back in the top 35 for the first time since 2022.<\/p>\n

Perhaps most significantly, if Raducanu can get into the top 32 before the US Open<\/a>, she will be seeded and her chances of a favourable draw will be increased<\/a> as she aims to replicate her 2021 title run.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old can move further up in the rankings, should she perform well at this week\u2019s tournament in Montreal. But she will forgo the 108 points she earned at the 2024 Citi Open, which was moved last year due to the Olympics<\/a>, next week.<\/p>\n

Raducanu did not compete at the Canadian Open last year and has the opportunity to claim some valuable ranking points, having been drawn against Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the opening round<\/a>. She could face Wimbledon<\/a> runner-up Amanda Anisimova in the third round.<\/p>\n

Citi Open finalists Leylah Fernandez and Anna Kalinskaya are the other big movers in this week\u2019s ranking update, with Fernandez crushing her opponent 6-1 6-2 in the Washington final to claim a fourth career title.<\/p>\n

She began the tournament at world No. 36 and improved to 24th, while Kalinskaya went from 48th to 31st in significant boosts before the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n

Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> remains top of the rankings and has nearly twice as many points as second-placed Coco Gauff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brit Fran Jones burst into the top 100 at 84th and is now one of four players inside triple digits, with Raducanu, Boulter and Sonay Kartal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Boulter dropped two places to 43rd after losing to Maria Sakkari in Washington, while Kartal also fell by three spots to 48th, having not played a match since her fourth-round Wimbledon<\/a> run.<\/p>\n

Jones claimed her second WTA 125 title of the month at the Palermo Open, defeating third seed Anouk Koevermans 6-3, 6-2 in the final. She didn\u2019t drop a single set in the tournament.<\/p>\n
