Overview <\/p>\n
The WHO Enhanced Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme (EGASP)
\n monitors Neisseria gonorrhoeae antimicrobial resistance to guide
\ntreatment optimization. It aligns with the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR
\n and the\u00a0Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS), providing quality-assured data to inform global and national
\n guidelines. <\/p>\n
The first EGASP report (data from 2015\u20132022) covered 4
\ncountries, while the 2024 report (data of 2023) expanded to 9,
\nshowing rising resistance to key treatments such as ceftriaxone and
\nazithromycin. EGASP operates through sentinel sites with WHO technical
\nsupport, building national capacity for sexually transmitted infections (STI) surveillance and laboratory
\nskills. In the current report (data of 2024), 13 countries across 5
\nWHO regions participated, with the latest figures including demographic,
