We did it for the province.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nobody was going to rain on this parade.<\/p>\n<p>Steady precipitation in the Regina area subsided in time for the Saskatchewan Roughriders\u2019 Grey Cup championship procession to travel southward down Albert Street \u2014 along the Green Mile \u2014 and east toward the Legislative Building on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s incredible to spend this time with Rider Nation,\u201d centre Logan Ferland told thousands of green-clad fans, \u201cand we\u2019ve got six more months of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The celebration began on Sunday at 9:46 p.m., when the 112th Grey Cup Game ended with Saskatchewan defeating the Montreal Alouettes 25-17 at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.<\/p>\n<p>The Roughriders registered the fifth Grey Cup victory in franchise history, following the conquests of 1966, 1989, 2007 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p>In 1966, the team headed directly from the airport to the Regina Armoury for a long-awaited victory bash.<\/p>\n<p>Among the attendees at that landmark event was George Reed\u2019s wife, Angie, who appeared with the Grey Cup on the Legislative Building\u2019s balcony on Tuesday \u2014 wearing her late husband\u2019s jersey No. 34.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was awesome,\u201d Mace said. \u201cI introduced Andrew Harris to her and I was like, \u2018This is like royalty.\u2019 I was just sitting there listening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAngie\u2019s outstanding. Last year, I made it a point to make sure she\u2019d come and visit. She\u2019d sit in my office and we\u2019d sit and talk about the old days. My wife got to spend some time with her and Georgette at different events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got all the time in the world for Angie. She is hilarious. She\u2019s awesome \u2014 and she\u2019s part of his organization forever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so cool that she could be a part of that. I know it meant something to her and I know it meant something to me. It definitely meant a lot to a lot of people who were there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tradition of visiting the Legislative Building began in 1989. The team\u2019s first championship parade was held on Nov. 27, 2007 \u2014 when the wind chill was minus-30.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from puddles and muddy patches, the conditions were optimal for Tuesday\u2019s gathering. The temperature was 3 C, with a trace of wind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey talked about how we only had four championships,\u201d Head Coach Corey Mace told the crowd. \u201cWell, we have five now, and we don\u2019t plan on stopping!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same could be said of the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnreal,\u201d receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker said, \u201cand it\u2019s not stopping anytime soon. We\u2019re just getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The community-owned team started as the Regina Rugby Club in 1910 \u2014\u00a0near the midpoint of a construction process that culminated in the opening of the stately Legislative Building in 1912.<\/p>\n<p>After the newly crowned champions travelled to the Legislative grounds via large trucks, a series of speeches were made before the Riders posed for a group photo on the front steps.<\/p>\n<p>Mace, Craig Reynolds (President-CEO), Jeremy O\u2019Day (Vice-President of Football Operations and General Manager) and several players then entered the building and, before too long, were visible on the balcony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBest view in the world,\u201d kicker Brett Lauther said. \u201cCan\u2019t beat it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just like the Roughriders could not be beaten with a Grey Cup on the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just happy, man,\u201d said Jermarcus Hardrick, who on Thursday was named the CFL\u2019s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did it for the city.
