{"id":296885,"date":"2025-11-21T05:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T05:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/296885\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T05:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T05:04:09","slug":"why-wnba-players-are-unmoved-by-leagues-recent-cba-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/296885\/","title":{"rendered":"Why WNBA Players Are Unmoved by League\u2019s Recent CBA Offer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_6o07llzvt\">The WNBA\u2019s current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is set to expire at the end of the month after the league and player\u2019s association<a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/wnba\/wnba-players-association-agrees-league-extension-offer-cba-talks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> agreed to a 30-day extension <\/a>amid stalled talks last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_dckxc7fzw\">According to a new <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/story\/_\/id\/47042388\/union-feels-wnba-cba-proposal-misses-key-demands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report from ESPN\u2019s Alexa Philippou<\/a>, the WNBPA does not view the league\u2019s latest CBA proposal as something that moves negotiations forward. On Tuesday, <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/wnba-cba-negotiations-deadline-499cb4d9d7723c185bf056e71e3755de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press reported<\/a> the WNBA\u2019s latest CBA proposal would include revenue sharing with a maximum salary of $1.1 million available to more than one player per team growing each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_i3gugh1zg\">Last season, each team\u2019s salary cap was $1.5 million, with the player supermax set at $249,244, maximum at $214,466 and a minimum salary of $66,079, based on <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/herhoopstats.com\/salary-cap-sheet\/wnba\/summary\/2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">information from Her Hoop Stats<\/a>. With the WNBA\u2019s recent CBA proposal, player salaries would average more than $460,000 with minimum salaries more than $220,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_d9pis3xf9\">Philippou reported, citing sources, that the WNBPA does not believe the league\u2019s proposal includes a system where the salary cap and player salaries sufficiently grow with the business as the players do not want a fixed salary system and instead want one based more directly on revenue, similar to the NBA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_hwqq0nrk7\">The players chose to opt out of the current CBA last year, which set the stage for negotiations and a potential new deal this offseason. The current CBA was set to expire Oct. 31, but the WNBPA and the league agreed to a 30-day extension on a new deal, setting a new expiration date of Nov. 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_mxvz7o-o_O-style_12bse5w-o_O-style_6s3kpz\" data-mm-id=\"_ijf7u4ogh\">Negotiations come at a time of contention between the league and its players, which was ignited by Lynx superstar <a class=\"tagStyle_1mfvp8o-o_O-style_aoxits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/wnba\/napheesa-collier-wnba-commissioner-comments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Napheesa Collier&#8217;s public criticism<\/a> of commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the WNBA&#8217;s inconsistent officiating in her end of season press conference.
