Recently, I posted a Soapbox column<\/a> in which I suggested that, since Bold & Beautiful was so heavily invested in Luna \u2014 and Lisa Yamada just won a Daytime Emmy \u2014\u00a0the character was bound for a long-overdue redemption arc. I theorized that Luna would enter into intensive therapy with Taylor \u2014\u00a0because it\u2019s not like the show is going to introduce a new shrink, right? There can only ever be a dozen people in all of L.A. at one time \u2014 stare down her demons and emerge on the other side someone who has changed for the better.<\/p>\n

Y\u2019all didn\u2019t take it well.<\/p>\n

Jayde, whose [bleep] list I\u2019ve long topped, was left \u201casking again, Charlie, isn\u2019t Soapbox supposed to be a weekly wrap-up? Like what actually happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was. It used to be. That\u2019s true. But then we discontinued the column. And then we restarted it again to write about of-the-moment things as they occur to us. We didn\u2019t make a big announcement about it. Guess we should\u2019ve. Sorry about that.<\/p>\n

Jayde also didn\u2019t like that \u201cthis is just a story about your opinion of what you reckon might happen. And the week\u2019s not even half over yet.\u201d And that is 100-percent true. But like all of us, we here at Soaps.com are constantly predicting what\u2019s coming down the pike.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sometimes we\u2019re even right.<\/p>\n

Jayde thinks that I\u2019m a Thomas hater, and I get that. I have often held him accountable for his dirty deeds. But I\u2019ve also taken Ridge to task for raping Brooke<\/a>, the whole show for treating Taylor\u2019s side of the family like crap<\/a> and the Logan sisters for passing judgment on others<\/a> when they are hot-mess central.<\/p>\n

I still get it. Thomas is Jayde\u2019s favorite. Gotta be. I get that, too. He\u2019s compelling, charismatic, a volcano that\u2019s always on the verge of erupting. And his storyline with Hope<\/a> \u2014\u00a0whether or not it made sense \u2014 was the hottest one she\u2019s ever had.<\/p>\n

So I thought I was doing a good deed by putting forth an idea that returned Thomas to the frontburner via a romance with a character with whom the show has gone all in. At the moment, if you want screentime, Luna is the way to get it.<\/p>\n

Lately, her pinup of Will has been featured more than Thomas. W the actual H?<\/p>\n

A commenter named tirttana wasn\u2019t down with the theory, either, and wrote that Taylor would never argue for Luna\u2019s release because it would so unnerve Steffy. But isn\u2019t Taylor supposed to be impartial? Isn\u2019t she supposed to be the arbiter of who is\/isn\u2019t a threat? Isn\u2019t she obliged to act as an advocate for the patient that she has led back to sanity?<\/p>\n

Maybe not. \u201cThere are places where you can post your fanfiction,\u201d tirttana added. Yup, I work for one. I\u2019m sorry if you hate everything I write \u2014\u00a0honestly, I am. I\u2019m just a soap fan sitting in his office doing my best to stay \u2014 or get \u2014 one step ahead of our shows. I\u2019m hoping to spark interest, start a discourse\u2026<\/p>\n

More: Luna roadkill?<\/a><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t mind if folks disagree with me. It\u2019s all subjective and is supposed to be fun. And our \u2014 or at least my \u2014 opinions can change on a dime along with the show\u2019s writing. But dang, y\u2019all zero in on an idea and refuse to let it go. \u201cWhy would Thomas date a double murderer?\u201d Suzannah asked. \u201cA killer who framed her own mother for her crimes? A rapist at that?\u201d<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know, Suzannah, maybe because Thomas\u2019 past is checkered, too, and he\u2019s trying to be a better person and might acknowledge that Luna is doing the same. It doesn\u2019t mean that I hate the character that I haven\u2019t forgotten that he had sex with Caroline when she couldn\u2019t consent, used son Douglas to manipulate Hope into a relationship and framed Brooke for calling CPS on him. That\u2019s just\u2026 show history. (See also: #JusticeForEmma)<\/p>\n

It happened. It doesn\u2019t mean that Matthew Atkinson isn\u2019t an MVP who should be returned to the frontburner asap. He should \u2014 dude\u2019s money in the bank. Thomas just needs to be written with a steadier hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know you don\u2019t like Thomas,\u201d Suzannah continued, \u201cbut why even put him in this article which is about redeeming a character who cannot be redeemed but should better be gone forever?\u201d<\/p>\n

My answer, and you\u2019ll hate it: Because I want Thomas back in the thick of things. Bold & Beautiful is all into Luna now. If we want Thomas back \u2014 and I do \u2014 Luna could fast-track his return. I definitely don\u2019t want to see him frothing at the mouth again about Ridge and Brooke\u2019s reunion, only to wind up hugging his stepmother a second later. That made no sense. But Thomas seeing in Luna an individual who is genuinely attempting to make amends\u2026 that would make sense.<\/p>\n

To me, anyway. If we saw enough of her sessions with Taylor to buy into it.<\/p>\n

I know I won\u2019t change anyone\u2019s mind, but I had to try, anyway. I\u2019d rather have Thomas stirring the pot any day of the week than spend another interminable half-hour listening to Will and Electra tell us how their insta-connection will see them through whatever is coming for them. Argh.<\/p>\n
