The WNBPA\u2019s current fight is \u201cone that hails from a long lineage of women-led labor strikes and disputes\u201d and, for the WNBA, it is \u201con one of the biggest public stages possible,\u201d according to Stephanie Kaloi of FAST COMPANY. This is \u201chardly the first time\u201d the 29-year-old league\u2019s athletes have entered into a legal dispute with the league\u2019s leadership. In fact, the first-ever CBA \u201cnearly tore the league apart\u201d — but \u201cultimately set the standard for women\u2019s professional sports leagues.\u201d Yet, today, players \u201cremain embroiled in an extremely public, high-stakes fight<\/a>; workers (in this case, players) are pushing back on a leadership they believe to be toxic.\u201d Like generations of women who have \u201cspearheaded\u201d labor disputes in the past, the players \u201chave to prove their own humanity to garner support.\u201d Workers in other industries have \u201cbeen forced to take drastic measures to get their needs met, too\u201d as there were the dual SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America Hollywood strikes in 2023. Like these labor disputes of the past, WNBA players are \u201cpushing for the same goals so many workers everywhere want: higher pay, increased benefits, and protection from occupational hazards, like injuries on the court.\u201d Kaloi: \u201cit doesn\u2019t typically pay to devalue workers and continue with toxic conditions.
