{"id":300162,"date":"2025-11-22T18:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T18:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/300162\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T18:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T18:38:07","slug":"clippers-chris-paul-hints-at-retirement-in-return-to-north-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/300162\/","title":{"rendered":"Clippers&#8217; Chris Paul hints at retirement in return to North Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CHARLOTTE, N.C.\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/clippers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clippers<\/a> point guard <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/travel\/story\/2025-08-15\/sunday-funday-chris-paul-things-to-do-los-angeles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Paul<\/a> hinted his potential retirement before the team\u2019s game against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday in what could be his final game in his home state of North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>The Winston-Salem, N.C., native released a video on social media about 90 minutes before tipoff showing highlights of him playing for several NBA teams throughout his 21-year professional career. The video also includes Paul from childhood through high school and his days playing at Wake Forest and getting drafted into the league.<\/p>\n<p>In the post on X, Paul wrote, \u201cBack in NC!!! What a ride\u2026Still so much left\u2026GRATEFUL for this last one!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 40-year-old Paul signed a one-year deal to return to the Clippers prior to the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to talk about no one retiring,\u201d Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said before the game. \u201cIt\u2019s a tough time especially when you put so much work in your life to play this game. When it\u2019s over and coming to an end, for me it was dark days because it\u2019s something you have done your whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lue added that he is \u201chappy he is able to come back home to end his career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul was not available for comment before the game.<\/p>\n<p>Paul is averaging 2.5 points and 3.3 assists per game in a limited role for the Clippers.<\/p>\n<p>A 12-time NBA All-Star, Paul was the New Orleans Hornets\u2019 fifth overall pick in 2005 and has been selected to the NBA All-Defensive first team seven times.
