An Idaho dad just received a $200,000 inheritance and immediately set his sights on a new Harley-Davidson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A fully equipped Low Rider S, priced at around $30,000.<\/p>\n

But when he called into Dave Ramsey\u2019s national financial-advice radio show, the reaction wasn\u2019t what he expected.<\/p>\n

Turns out, financial experts believe there are better ways he could be using the money.<\/p>\n

The $200,000 inheritance and the Harley-Davidson he\u2019s set on<\/p>\n

Alexander, calling into the show from Idaho, said he\u2019d just inherited around $200,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Part of it was in savings, part in a mutual fund, and one slice he says is earmarked for a Harley-Davidson Low Rider S<\/a> that would cost about $30,000 once he adds the extras.<\/p>\n

On paper, it sounds like a harmless treat after a windfall<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the rest of Alexander\u2019s numbers tell a very different story.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He and his wife bring home about $85,000 a year to support their family of four.<\/p>\n

And every month, they spend roughly $1,000 more than they make.<\/p>\n

Then came the bigger issue: they still have a mortgage that they could wipe out with the inheritance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Instead, Alexander kept circling back to the bike and why he still felt it made sense.<\/p>\n

As he talked, the hosts could hear him dodging the obvious fixes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be able to help you, honey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why the experts say he shouldn\u2019t buy a bike right now<\/p>\n

This is where the Harley<\/a> dream starts to wobble.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A motorcycle \u2013 especially a $30,000 one \u2013 is a fast-depreciating toy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Premier Motorsports<\/a> estimates bikes lose 15-25 percent of their value in the first year, then another 7-10 percent annually.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alexander\u2019s $30,000 bike could be worth around $22,500 before year one is up.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s before ongoing insurance, fuel, and maintenance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the real cost is what the money could be doing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Invest $30,000 at a 7 percent return, and it could grow to about $59,000 in 10 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Put the same amount toward the mortgage, and it could shave years off the loan.<\/p>\n

When a family is overspending every month, using savings on a non-essential vehicle isn\u2019t just risky \u2013 it shakes the financial foundation<\/a> they\u2019re trying to build.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One rough month, and that Harley becomes an expensive regret, not a reward.<\/p>\n

If Alexander wants long-term stability, the experts say the bike can wait.<\/p>\n

But the reality check can\u2019t.<\/p>\n
