The Carolina Hurricanes have had a great first quarter of the 2025-26 NHL season, currently sitting first in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-5-2 record, which leads the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n
As TFP has reported earlier in the season, the Hurricanes are among the teams interested in exploring the trade market for another big addition and may look to make a big splash at some point before the trade deadline. However, it appears the Canes may look to move one of their star forwards in the process.<\/p>\n
During the \u2018Saturday Headlines\u2019 segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman reported that star winger Andrei Svechnikov was unhappy with his usage in the first part of the season and would be open to a trade.<\/p>\n
Svechnikov, 25, is in the fifth season of an eight-year, $62 million contract and owns a 10-team trade list as part of his contract.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand that the inference was made to the Carolina Hurricanes that if they wanted to trade him, he wouldn\u2019t be upset about it, that he would be open to the idea,\u201d Friedman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard there were some teams that called the Hurricanes and they were told ‘we still consider this a cornerstone player, and this is not something we want to do, but if you\u2019re going to ask us, you\u2019re going to have to make a monster offer.’ Now things have cooled down, he\u2019s back on the first line.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is unclear which teams have reached out to Carolina about Svechnikov or if any of those clubs are any of the 10 on his preferred trade list, but it appears, for the time being, a move is unlikely.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything has calmed down, for now,\u201d Friedman reiterated.<\/p>\n
