Joe Gomez<\/a>\u2018s lack of involvement for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest<\/a> bemused some, but Arne Slot<\/a> has explained why he didn\u2019t feature.<\/p>\n

Forest coasted to victory at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, with the Reds beaten 3-0 and unable to stop the current malaise they are in.<\/p>\n

Ibrahima Konate<\/a> was again one of Liverpool\u2019s worst players, with many feeling that Gomez deserved to start at centre-back or come in at right-back in the absence of Conor Bradley<\/a> and Jeremie Frimpong<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2022 READ: Alexander Isak \u201chardly had a kick\u201d as Ibrahima Konate \u201calarming\u201d yet again<\/a> <\/p>\n

But speaking in his press conference<\/a> after the game, Slot revealed that the Reds\u2019 longest-serving current player was unavailable for selection.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to start the game with a midfielder at right full-back because both of our full-backs are injured,\u201d Slot said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Gomez<\/a> is also a player who can play there but hasn\u2019t trained the whole week. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he was fully ready to start this game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Time for Gomez to earn more minutes for Liverpool<\/p>\n

Gomez may not have been fit for Saturday\u2019s defeat to Forest, but he must wonder what he has done wrong to earn so little playing time under Arne Slot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just 43 minutes of action have come his way in the Premier League<\/a> this season, across four cameo appearances, and his only two starts have come in the Carabao Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Konate\u2019s form this campaign is now more than a cause for concern, with the Frenchman looking like a player flustered at the slightest inconvenience.<\/p>\n

His performances are consistently error-strewn, not helping those around him, and a spell out of the team feels like the best solution.<\/p>\n

With Virgil van Dijk<\/a> needing to be managed carefully at the age of 34, and Giovanni Leoni<\/a> out for the season, Gomez must feature more.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old isn\u2019t perfect and injuries continue to hamper him, but he is an experienced figure who can do a dependable job at both centre-back and right-back if given a run of games.<\/p>\n

Seeing Dominik Szoboszlai<\/a>, Liverpool\u2019s best player this season, thrown back into an auxiliary right-back role against Forest was frustrating, and Gomez is the more natural option there.<\/p>\n
