Matthew Semelsberger has a new home after winning the recent BKFC tryouts to earn a spot on the KnuckleMania VI card going down in Philadelphia on Feb. 7.<\/p>\n
On Monday, BKFC announced that the tryouts held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia featured 60 fighters vying for a spot on the card. Ultimately, it was Semelsberger and local fighter Christian Fayne who won the opportunity and now they\u2019ll face off in February.<\/p>\n
Semelsberger joining the BKFC roster via the tryouts is his first move since being released from the UFC following four straight losses. He actually broke the news on social media that he was being released from his contract with Semelsberger admitting that perhaps he didn\u2019t actually belong on the roster any longer.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficially released from the UFC. Par for the course, I don\u2019t deserve to be there with the best of the best and I\u2019ve shown that these last few fights in particular,\u201d Semelsberger wrote on Instagram. \u201cEveryone hits plateaus and filters in life and in their careers. It\u2019s happened many times in my life and I\u2019ve tasted the pain of both discipline and regret in succeeding or failing to climb levels. The whole you either die a hero or live to become the enemy rings true to me because life is a serious of metaphorical deaths and rebirths.. You can\u2019t stay the same, you gotta grow and let go of your old self to evolve a stronger heart and spirit.<\/p>\n
\u201cLetting go has been difficult for me the last few years but you know I\u2019ve found that eventually, often late, God gets the truth through to me and I respond accordingly. Everything that\u2019s happening is setting me up for greatness, I got faith on that. It is up to me to answer the call to adventure though. So I\u2019ll [be right back], gonna go die and be reborn from the ashes right quick.. Really think you\u2019ll like the new guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
At his peak, Semelsberger was one of the more entertaining fighters in the UFC where he put together an admirable 4-2 record through his first six appearances including wins over Jake Matthews and Jason Witt.<\/p>\n
But his UFC run ended unceremoniously with four consecutive losses including a pair of tough knockouts suffered in fights against Charles Radtke and Uros Medic.<\/p>\n
