Will the GTA escape the snow?<\/p>\n<p>While the system\u2019s core will remain to the north, southern Ontario\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0escape its reach.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By Thursday,\u00a0a release of\u00a0Arctic air\u00a0will funnel across the Great Lakes Basin, dropping temperatures and fueling\u00a0strong winds\u00a0of 60\u201380\u00a0km\/h. Those gusts are expected to push lake\u2011effect snow squalls into the snowbelts downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with forecasters warning that even the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) could see bursts of heavy snow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Futurecast-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Future weather forecast for GTA and Ontario, Fri. It is\u00a0located\u00a0above both poles around 15-48 km\u00a0above the ground and is nothing new. In this case, the disruption will\u00a0mainly be\u00a0due to something called an \u201cSSW\u201d or \u201csudden stratospheric warming\u201d which will weaken the \u201cwind wall\u201d.\u00a0While spills of\u00a0cold air\u00a0at this time of year are not unusual, the \u201cSSW\u201d event that will cause it is early for this time of year, happening only a couple of times this early in the season in the past 70 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The current La Ni\u00f1a is also playing a role in this shift to\u00a0cold weather. Rain is\u00a0likely overnight\u00a0with a low of 7\u00b0C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday will remain cloudy with\u00a0on and off\u00a0showers\u00a0through the\u00a0day\u00a0switching to rain\/snow mix by the evening. The high of 11\u00b0C will begin falling during the afternoon as\u00a0strong winds\u00a0pick up. Overnight, there is a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers, with temperatures falling to 0\u00b0C\u00a0and gusty winds continuing. <\/p>\n<p>Thursday will be cloudy with blowing snow at times for the city. It will also be windy, with a daytime high of 1\u00b0C. Heavy flurries are expected overnight, with a low of \u20132\u00b0C\u00a0and a morning wind chill near \u201310 by\u00a0Saturday\u00a0morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What will areas north of the GTA see?<\/p>\n<p>A developing low\u2011pressure system south of Lake Superior late Tuesday is expected to\u00a0merge with an Alberta clipper triggering widespread snow through Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions across northern Ontario. Environment Canada has issued winter storm watches for dozens of communities, including Thunder Bay, Timmins, Kapuskasing,\u00a0Marathon\u00a0and Wawa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/WinterStormWatch-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Weather watches and warnings, Ontario, Nov 2025 Graphic: CITYNEWS\" class=\"wp-image-4705938\"  \/>Weather watches and warnings, Ontario, Nov 2025<br \/>\nGraphic: CITYNEWS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong northerly winds will also accompany the snow, leading to possible blowing snow that could reduce visibility to near\u00a0zero\u00a0at times,\u201d writes Environment Canada on Monday. \u201cThere\u00a0remains\u00a0uncertainty with the exact track of the low-pressure system, and therefore the corridor of\u00a0heaviest\u00a0snowfall.
