Jessica Simpson<\/a> made headlines during her early career when she revealed that she was planning to wait until marriage to have sex \u2014\u00a0but somehow Ashton Kutcher<\/a> missed the memo.\n<\/p>\n

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/a> reflecting on her career, the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer recalled a conversation with Kutcher about her decision to remain a virgin into her early 20s. Simpson starred as Annette on season 5 of\u00a0That ’70s Show<\/a>, on which Kutcher played Michael Kelso as a series regular.<\/p>\n

“I’ll never forget telling Ashton I was a virgin,” Simpson told the outlet. “He was like, ‘Why?'”\n<\/p>\n

The singer, who had been dating future husband Nick Lachey<\/a> at the time, continued, “I was like, ‘Because I haven’t met my husband yet.’ I mean, I had met my husband at that time, but I was a virgin. Guys like that.”<\/p>\n

Simpson called herself “very innocent” during those days, explaining, “I’m not thinking about other people and their sex lives at all.”\n<\/p>\n

She added, “It was just something that I talked about, I think in an interview maybe. I’m sure they asked me, like, what type of guy I liked or something. They had to have asked me something about sex. It wouldn’t be like, ‘Hi, my name’s Jessica Simpson. I’m a virgin.'”\n<\/p>\n

Looking back, Simpson acknowledged that her record label was “probably shocked” that she shared such personal information. “But I’ve always been open. Legs crossed \u2014 but open,” she quipped.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Simpson opened up about her relationship with sex and Lachey in\u00a0her 2020 memoir,\u00a0Open Book,<\/a>\u00a0in which she also revealed that alcohol was a way to self-medicate and dull the pain of being sexually abused as a child<\/a> and help her cope with the stress of childhood fame.\n<\/p>\n

Recalling the night she and Lachey retired to their honeymoon suite to consummate their marriage, Simpson confessed it was awkward for both parties involved.\n<\/p>\n

“What I didn’t know then is that everyone’s first time is awkward,” Simpson writes. “And that is part of it. And that it’s okay, but at the time, it’s tough to understand. I had joined a long line of virgins in my family who said yes to forever for that one experience.”\n<\/p>\n

She and Lachey called it quits in 2005 \u2014\u00a0with Lachey getting a pretty penny in the divorce settlement that the singer called the price of her freedom in her memoir \u2014 and Simpson went on to marry retired NFL player Eric Johnson.\n<\/p>\n

Simpson and Johnson share three children together: daughter Maxwell Drew, son Ace Knute, and daughter Birdie Mae. The two were married for 10 years before announcing their split earlier this year<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

Although Simpson took a step back from the spotlight to raise her family and devote herself to\u00a0her billion-dollar fashion line<\/a>, the Jessica Simpson Collection, she’s recently experienced something of a career renaissance.\n<\/p>\n

She\u00a0returned to the stage for the first time in over a decade in March<\/a>\u00a0and graced TV screens in Ryan Murphy’s new legal drama,\u00a0All\u2019s Fair<\/a>.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

“I feel like at 45, I’m born again,” Simpson told\u00a0E!
