The 32-year-old comes over from the Athletics organization, where he\u2019d spent the past two seasons working with minor league pitchers.<\/p>\n<p>McFerran has never previously worked on an MLB staff. His two-year stint with the A\u2019s was his first in a professional organization. McFerran had previously worked in the college ranks. He was at Division III Skidmore College between 2017-20 before spending three years at Wake Forest, where he oversaw their pitching lab. Nine Wake Forest pitchers were drafted over that stretch. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=cusick001rya&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-11-24_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ryan Cusick<\/a> (2021) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowderh01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-11-24_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rhett Lowder<\/a> (2023) were first-rounders in their respective draft years, while <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=sulliv005sea\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sean Sullivan<\/a> went at the top of the second round in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Sweeney is headed into his fourth season as Kansas City\u2019s lead pitching coach. They needed a new assistant after Zach Bove stepped down to take the top <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlbtraderumors.com\/2025\/11\/white-sox-name-zach-bove-pitching-coach-derek-shomon-to-be-hitting-coach.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pitching coach job<\/a> with the White Sox.
