Scarlett Johansson, fresh off her success from \u201cJurassic World: Rebirth,\u201d will next star in a new \u201cExorcist\u201d movie for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment for Universal Pictures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Haunting of Hill House\u201d creator Mike Flanagan will write and direct the film, via his Red Room Pictures banner.<\/p>\n

\u201cScarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters, and I couldn\u2019t be happier to have her join this Exorcist film,\u201d Flanagan said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The film will tell an all-new story set in\u00a0\u201cThe Exorcist\u201d\u00a0universe and is not a sequel to 2023\u2019s\u00a0\u201cThe Exorcist: Believer.\u201d It is produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan.<\/p>\n

Alexandra Magistro will also executive produce for Red Room Pictures. David Robinson produces for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek serve as producer and executive producer for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.<\/p>\n

Johansson is a Tony and BAFTA-winning actress, producer and director. Johansson\u2019s directorial debut, \u201cEleanor the Great,\u201d which she produced with her partners at These Pictures, had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and North American premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.<\/p>\n

Johansson received her first two Academy Award nominations, for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cMarriage Story\u201d and Taika Waititi\u2019s \u201cJojo Rabbit,\u201d respectively, becoming the twelfth performer to be nominated for two Oscars in the same year. Her other notable acting credits include \u201cJurassic World: Rebirth,\u201d which grossed $869 million worldwide, \u201cAsteroid City,\u201d \u201cFly Me to the Moon,\u201d \u201cBlack Widow,\u201d \u201cLost in Translation,\u201d \u201cAvengers: Endgame,\u201d \u201cAvengers: Infinity War,\u201d \u201cLucy,\u201d \u201cUnder the Skin,\u201d \u201cGhost in the Shell,\u201d \u201cIsle of Dogs,\u201d \u201cSing,\u201d \u201cSing 2,\u201d and \u201cHer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flanagan\u2019s latest film, \u201cThe Life of Chuck,\u201d recently won the People\u2019s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. He most recently wrapped production on the Amazon MGM Studios TV adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s debut novel, \u201cCarrie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flanagan\u2019s other credits include \u201cDoctor Sleep\u201d and \u201cGerald\u2019s Game,\u201d as well as the creator of the hit series \u201cMidnight Mass,\u201d \u201cThe Haunting of Hill House\u201d and \u201cThe Fall of the House of Usher.\u201d<\/p>\n
