Todd Mondor is no longer president and vice-chancellor of the University of Winnipeg<\/p>\n

The chair of the school’s board of regents said in a statement Tuesday the departure is effective immediately. His term was originally set to run until June 30, 2027.<\/p>\n

“The board of regents wants to assure our community that this decision was reached after careful consideration and extensive deliberation,” board chair Michelle Pereira said in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The board feels that as we move to implement our recently announced strategic plan, it is in the best interest of the university and the broader community to refocus our leadership.”<\/p>\n

Mondor became the university’s 10th president and vice-chancellor in 2022 to steer the institution following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the school had to deal with one of the many pro-Palestinian encampments set up at Canadian universities amid the Israeli-Hamas war.<\/a><\/p>\n

Last fall, the university implemented a hiring freeze and slashed its mid-year budget across all departments by seven per cent. Its English language program shut down this past winter.<\/p>\n

The board has already started looking for an interim leader, Pereira said.<\/p>\n
