Four international campaigners in the junior-middleweight division \u2013 Brandon \u201cFast Guns\u201d Thysse, Shervontaigh \u201cSK\u201d Koopman, Roarke \u201cRazor\u201d Knapp and Kagiso Bagwasi \u2013 will be involved in what Berman termed \u201cSurvival Series\u201d.<\/p>\n
It is a two-legged knockout competition and one of the most lucrative and high-stakes domestic tournaments in recent memory.<\/p>\n
With a massive R2.5m total purse, the winner of the 2026 final is slated to pocket 60% of a R1.2m prize pot.<\/p>\n
Berman included a winner-takes-all fight between SA middleweight champion, Phikelelani \u201cStinger\u201d Khumalo, and ABU titlist Donjuan \u201cIron Dragon\u201d van Heerden.<\/p>\n
The tournament dubbed \u201cIt doesn\u2019t get bigger than this\u201d will be headlined by an IBO junior-bantamweight championship between holder Ricardo \u201cMagic Man\u201d Malajika and Vince Paras from the Philippines.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are setting the stage for a bigger and brighter 2026,\u201d said Berman at Emperors Palace during the pre-fight medical examination on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Boxing SA CEO Tsholofelo Lejaka said it was important to recognise Berman\u2019s outstanding work.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor any boxing promotion to live the lifespan that Golden Gloves has is unprecedented,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not only about survival but also about thriving; year in and [year] out, Rodney has a programme compact which he discusses with the CEO of Boxing SA a year before.\u201d<\/p>\n
BSA already knows Golden Gloves\u2019 plans for 2026, added Lejaka.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have somebody who is at the level of delivery, while still respecting the law, being able to comply with what is expected of his obligations to the regulator.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecondly, looking at the type of purse money he puts up for the boxers, this is something that is commendable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we are saying it is important that we recognise heroes and legends among us.\u201d<\/p>\n
