Mick Jagger<\/a> and Keith Richards<\/a> have paid tribute to the late\u00a0reggae and soul legend\u00a0Jimmy Cliff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Rolling Stones<\/a> members took to social media to react to the news of Cliff\u2019s death<\/a>, who passed away aged 81, caused by \u201ca seizure followed by pneumonia\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Jamaican singer, actor and multi-instrumentalist is widely credited with helping bring reggae music to the global stage, and is best recognised for his tracks including \u2018You Can Get It If You Really Want\u2019 and \u2018Many Rivers To Cross\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now, Jagger is the latest to pay respects to the legend, sharing a photo of the pair laughing and drinking together at Cliff\u2019s 1981 performance at New York\u2019s Ritz Hotel. \u201cSo sad to lose the beautiful voice of Jamaica, Jimmy Cliff\u201d, he wrote.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Richards also took to social media to share his memories of Cliff, writing: \u201cFarewell Jimmy, I was in Jamaica when \u2018The Harder They Come\u2019 was in every cinema on the island. You could feel the pride and the love for Jimmy everywhere.<\/p>\n

Cliff, Richards and Jagger have maintained a longstanding relationship, which started when Richards visited Jamaica frequently in the 1970s. Richards\u2019 first solo release was a cover of Chuck Berry\u2019s \u2018Run Rudolph Run\u2019 set to his own interpretation of Cliff\u2019s \u2018The Harder They Come\u2019 in 1978, and Cliff would go on to provide backing vocals on The Rolling Stones\u2019 song, \u2018Too Rude\u2019 in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Cliff and Jagger were once reportedly neighbours in London during the time Cliff was becoming an actor in the 1970s \u2013 eventually landing his role for\u00a0The Harder They Come, for which he would also write its pivotal soundtrack.<\/p>\n

Other acting roles he took on included a role in 1986\u2019s\u00a0Club Paradise\u00a0alongside Robin Williams, and appearing alongside Steven Seagal in the 1990 film\u00a0Marked For Death.<\/p>\n

Cliff won Grammys<\/a> for both \u2018Cliff Hanger\u2019 (1985) and \u2018Rebirth\u2019 (2012) albums, and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010.<\/p>\n
