{"id":311586,"date":"2025-11-28T03:58:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T03:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/311586\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T03:58:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T03:58:20","slug":"molson-canada-accuses-ex-managers-of-embezzling-millions-in-fraud-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/311586\/","title":{"rendered":"Molson Canada accuses ex-managers of embezzling millions in fraud scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Molson Canada has accused former managers of embezzling millions of dollars in an intricate <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/fraud\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fraud<\/a> scheme that also allegedly involved the president of Firkin Hospitality Group.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763808739_201_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In documents filed Wednesday in Ontario Superior Court, the brewing giant claimed that former <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/molson-canada\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Molson Canada<\/a> sales director Frank Ivankovic oversaw \u201ca complex scheme to defraud the company of many millions of dollars\u201d that later involved two subordinates.<\/p>\n<p>Ivankovic \u201cdeceitfully exploited his authority within the company\u201d to approve fraudulent invoices from a pair of shell companies that in turn funnelled secret payments back to him and his wife Kelly O\u2019Brien-Ivankovic, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit<\/a>, first reported by the Globe and Mail.<\/p>\n<p>The invoices \u2014 some labelled as being for \u201cevent planning\u201d \u2014 have drained nearly $9.1 million from its coffers since 2021, said Molson Canada, a subsidiary of the Chicago-based Molson Coors Beverage Co., in the court documents.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>It also alleges that the two companies \u2014 Letz Go and a numbered company the court documents refer to as 466 Ontario \u2014 are controlled by Firkin pub chain president Larry Isaacs and his wife Ellen Bacher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActing through Letz Go and 466 Ontario, Bacher and Isaacs conspired with Ivankovic and received a share of the proceeds of the fraud,\u201d the statement of claim alleges.<\/p>\n<p>None of the allegations have been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer representing Isaacs and his wife said the accusations were baseless.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763808740_130_national.jpg\" alt=\"For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy clients\u2019 position is that the allegations made against them by Molson Coors are without merit and they intend to respond to those allegations in court,\u201d said Niklas Holmberg in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Ivankovic, who the court documents say resigned from Molson in October amid an internal investigation, enlisted two former employees in recent years. A chiropractor with \u201cno known consulting\u201d experience, O\u2019Brien-Ivankovic also incorporated an entity called KO Consulting that acted as \u201ca conduit for Ivankovic and (O\u2019Brien-Ivankovic)\u2019s misappropriation of funds,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged scheme involved text messages and in-person meetups between Ivankovic and Firkin\u2019s Isaacs that revolved around payments, with the two referring to Isaacs\u2019 wife as \u201cboss\u201d: \u201c\u2018Boss says not in yet\u2019 \u2018Got it \u2014 mail or give to you?\u2019 \u2018Meet.
