{"id":311964,"date":"2025-11-28T08:54:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T08:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/311964\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T08:54:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T08:54:12","slug":"curious-and-inaccurate-ato-forson-slams-boako-over-claims-govt-missed-50-of-2025-economic-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/311964\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Curious and inaccurate\u2019 \u2013 Ato Forson slams Boako over claims govt missed 50% of 2025 economic targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/NewsArchive\/Curious-and-inaccurate-Ato-Forson-slams-Boako-over-claims-govt-missed-50-of-2025-economic-targets-2011310?gallery=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/35857378.295.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Cassiel Ato Forson (R) has taken a swipe at Dr Gideon Boako (L) over claims on the economy\" title=\"Dr Cassiel Ato Forson (R) has taken a swipe at Dr Gideon Boako (L) over claims on the economy\" width=\"295\" height=\"197\" \/> <\/a>Dr Cassiel Ato Forson (R) has taken a swipe at Dr Gideon Boako (L) over claims on the economy<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-123\">The Minister of Finance, Dr <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/people\/person.php?ID=2581\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/people\/person.php?ID=2581\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cassiel Ato Forson<\/a>, has issued a sharp rebuttal to claims made by Dr Gideon Boako, MP for Tano North, who earlier criticised the 2026 Budget for containing \u201cgrey areas\u201d and accused the government of missing nearly half of its macro-fiscal targets.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Boako, speaking during the 2026 budget debate in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/people\/person.php?ID=3205\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Parliament<\/a>, argued that the document lacked clarity in key areas, particularly tax administration and inflation management. <\/p>\n<p>He warned that the government\u2019s plan to introduce artificial intelligence at the ports could become \u201ca profiteering opportunity for nation wreckers\u201d if not tightly supervised.<\/p>\n<p>He also questioned the credibility of the Finance Minister, saying, \u201cBarely one year down the line, how does Minister Ato Forson feel when he has also significantly missed most of his macro-fiscal targets?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/business\/Finance-Minister-hails-policy-rate-cut-to-18-2011188\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Finance Minister hails policy rate cut to 18%<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But in a strong response posted on X on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Dr Forson labelled Boako\u2019s assertions \u201ccurious and inaccurate,\u201d insisting that none of the available data supports the claim that 50 percent of targets were missed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a curious and inaccurate claim, because none of the macro data supports it,\u201d he wrote in a thread.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that Ghana\u2019s economic growth for the first half of the year stood at 6.3 percent, which was comfortably above the revised 2025 target of 4.0 percent. <\/p>\n<p>The finance minister added that inflation had fallen sharply from 23.8 percent in 2024 to 8 percent by October 2025, beating the government\u2019s own projected end-year target of 11.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Forson further argued that the primary balance had moved from a deficit of 3 percent of GDP in 2024 to a surplus of 1.6 percent by September 2025, outperforming the 0.6 percent target set for that period.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that public debt had also dropped significantly from 61.8 percent at the end of 2024 to 45 percent of GDP by the end of October 2025, describing it as a historic correction. <\/p>\n<p>Dr Ato Forson noted as well that Ghana\u2019s gross reserves had strengthened from four months of import cover to 4.8 months.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that the data is recognised by \u201cthe markets, investors, credit rating agencies, the IMF and the World Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ending the rebuttal, Dr Forson defended the government\u2019s performance and rejected claims that it is failing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the profile of a government \u2018missing half its targets.\u2019 This is the profile of a government regaining credibility through discipline,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT<\/p>\n<p>2.
