{"id":312038,"date":"2025-11-28T09:51:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T09:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/312038\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T09:51:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T09:51:17","slug":"so-much-for-canadas-manufacturing-job-rebound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/312038\/","title":{"rendered":"So much for Canada\u2019s manufacturing-job rebound"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a style=\"display:block\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/resizer\/v2\/ELSJI7N6B5FOPID34DTP42L3RA.JPG?auth=a635b513a5931c7d4b9d02c4b450a89635c0b6ba93e692495af9167203cd5fe2&amp;width=600&amp;height=400&amp;quality=80&amp;smart=true\" aria-haspopup=\"true\" data-photo-viewer-index=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open this photo in gallery:<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"figcap-text\">An employee works on the production line at the Martinrea auto parts manufacturing plant in Woodbridge, Ont., in February.Chris Young\/The Canadian Press<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">For two months Canada\u2019s most closely watched survey of the job market has reassuringly signalled that a rebound in manufacturing employment is under way. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Actual employer payrolls suggest that growth was an illusion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In September, Canada\u2019s manufacturing sector shed more than 9,500 jobs from the month before, the ninth straight monthly decline this year, according to Statistics Canada\u2019s survey of employment, payrolls and hours, released Thursday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text mv-16 l-inset text-pb-8\" data-sophi-feature=\"interstitial\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-trump-tariff-trade-canada-changes-29-ways\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twenty-nine ways Trump has changed Canada<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">It\u2019s a stark contrast from the agency\u2019s Labour Force Survey (LFS), which polls households about their employment status and is more current. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In October, employment in the manufacturing sector was up by 36,500 jobs from August, according to the LFS, and had largely rebounded from declines after U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s broad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tariff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tariff\/\">tariffs<\/a> on Canada began in March.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Economists have regularly highlighted the growing disparity between the two surveys and what it says about the resilience of Canada\u2019s economy to the trade war. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">They\u2019ve noted the LFS survey has not yet fully accounted for the slowdown in Canada\u2019s population growth, which paints an excessively rosy jobs picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Looking at the household survey alone, \u201cyou could be forgiven for thinking that the local economy is in the midst of a surprising boom,\u201d wrote David Rosenberg, president of Rosenberg Research &amp;
