\u201cOne thing I\u2019d like to clear up is I\u2019d love nothing more than to play for the Winnipeg Jets.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that, prospect Brad Lambert spoke for the first time about the rumours that he had asked his agent to explore opportunities<\/a> outside the organization. The 21-year-old addressed the speculation with me after practice in Winnipeg, making it clear his commitment to play for the Jets hasn\u2019t wavered.<\/p>\n

Lambert made the Jets out of training camp and scored his first NHL goal in his third game of the season. He appeared in four of Winnipeg\u2019s first 18 games before being assigned back to the AHL\u2019s Moose. Since returning to Manitoba, he has added one goal and one assist in six games.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that reaching the NHL with Winnipeg has been his priority since draft day. \u201cI\u2019ve been working towards that for three years now since I got drafted. That\u2019s been my main goal is to play for the Jets.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, Lambert acknowledged the organizational depth that has limited his immediate opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoesn\u2019t seem like there\u2019s an opportunity for that in the near future without injuries. I think that\u2019s what I\u2019ll leave it at.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, he says he remains focused on his development and contributing in the AHL, concentrating on the \u201cday-to-day and helping the Moose win and preparing for my next NHL opportunity.\u201d.<\/p>\n

I recall speaking with an AHL coach years ago who said he\u2019d be surprised if any young player wasn\u2019t champing at the bit to reach the NHL. Obviously, teams prefer this remain quiet, but it\u2019s hardly surprising that a 21-year-old wants to play in the best league in the world.<\/p>\n

For now, Lambert remains in the AHL, where his attitude continues to be positive and focused as he prepares for his next shot at the NHL.<\/p>\n
