{"id":313660,"date":"2025-11-29T04:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T04:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/313660\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T04:24:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T04:24:11","slug":"scarborough-fatal-hit-and-run-man-charged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/313660\/","title":{"rendered":"Scarborough fatal hit-and-run: man charged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">One of the drivers wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Scarborough in May has been arrested, Toronto police say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a news release on Friday, police provided an update <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2025\/05\/09\/pedestrian-dead-after-being-struck-by-van-and-suv-in-scarborough-hit-and-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2025\/05\/09\/pedestrian-dead-after-being-struck-by-van-and-suv-in-scarborough-hit-and-run\/\">on the May 8 collision<\/a> that occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. near Birchmount Road and St. Clair Avenue East.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said a female pedestrian was struck by a white cargo van in the northbound lanes and shortly after was hit again by a dark SUV in the southbound lanes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the drivers of the vehicles fled the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A day after the hit-and-run, investigators found the white cargo van in the area of Kingston and McCowan roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">More than six months later, the driver, identified as 43-year-old Gregory Manzer, was arrested earlier this week. He has been charged with leaving the accident scene causing death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He is also facing careless driving causing bodily harm or death under the Highway Traffic Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said the dark SUV has not been located, nor has the driver.
