Alpine<\/a> managing director Steve Nielsen says the Enstone-based team needs \u201cpatience, common sense and consistency\u201d for the\u00a0foreseeable future\u00a0as it tries to find its way back to the front in Formula 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nielsen arrived at Alpine in September to take on the managing director role left vacant by Oliver Oakes, who suddenly\u00a0departed<\/a>\u00a0the team in early May after the Miami Grand Prix.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His arrival also meant a reunion with Flavio Briatore, who had come onboard in June 2024 as executive advisor and the de facto leader of Alpine, in what became the latest major change in\u00a0a long line\u00a0of management reshuffles at the top of the organisation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As Alpine\u2019s management structure appears to have settled, Nielsen believes it is now time for the team to develop\u00a0through a long and lasting period of stability, although he recognises that such a luxury is hard to obtain in F1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been too many changes over the last few years at Enstone,\u201d he said. \u201cI don’t criticise any of my predecessors, but\u00a0it’s\u00a0time for patience, common sense, and consistency. We want the team to be better, and patience and Formula 1\u00a0don’t\u00a0go well together, but\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0the task.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Briatore\u00a0has\u00a0stated\u00a0more than once this year that Alpine needs to have a competitive season in 2026 and challenge for podiums amid the revised regulations that will come into place. Next year, the team will also move to a customer deal with Mercedes<\/a> for its power units.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nielsen seemed to\u00a0put a halt to\u00a0that, as he warned that there are no \u201cmagic bullets\u201d in F1, with Alpine facing a slow reconstruction process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to spend the next few years building, and it\u2019s a slow, grinding process,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0F1, there are no magic bullets. You just\u00a0have to\u00a0fix a million details \u2013 in place, people. More than anything,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a people business. So, I’ve\u00a0kind of relearned\u00a0that\u00a0lesson, if\u00a0you like.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nielsen acknowledged earlier this month\u00a0while\u00a0speaking to Autosport that the team was caught by surprise by how its midfield rivals continued to improve their cars during the 2025 campaign. In contrast,\u00a0Alpine decided to stop development by June, which left the team last in the constructors\u2019 championship with a third of the points of the\u00a0next\u00a0team in the standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, he was adamant that Alpine still has the passion needed to bounce back from its current form, as he again stressed the need for consistency.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a cliche, but it\u2019s a racing team,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0full of people with racing spirit. It\u2019s had mixed results recently, but I think\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0passion and a will to put it back to where it has been in the past.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dedication is huge, from the top to the bottom of the company.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0my job to coordinate that, strengthen the areas that are good, strengthen the areas where we are weak, and bring some common sense and consistency to the management.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
