{"id":314854,"date":"2025-11-29T18:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/314854\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T18:41:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:41:10","slug":"uk-school-removes-all-mirrors-from-toilets-because-students-wont-stop-looking-in-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/314854\/","title":{"rendered":"UK school removes all mirrors from toilets because students \u2018won\u2019t stop looking in them\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/school\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:school;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">school<\/a> has sparked anger among parents after removing mirrors from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/bathrooms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:bathrooms;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">bathrooms<\/a> because pupils would not stop gathering around them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Wey Valley Academy in Weymouth, Dorset, has come under fire after introducing the measure to tackle what it described as \u201ccongestion and behaviour issues\u201d in the toilets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The school said students were crowding around the mirrors, causing \u201cdelays, overcrowding, and in some cases, behaviour that made the space less comfortable for others\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But the explanation has gone down badly with some parents, with one branding it \u201ca joke\u201d, according to the Bournemouth Echo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">One mother of two girls said she was \u201coutraged\u201d by the decision.She said: \u201cBeing a teen\/pre teen is hard enough and removing the mirrors when they need to fix their hair, check that they haven&#8217;t something in their teeth, or even check their lunch isn&#8217;t on their face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOne of my daughter&#8217;s friends had to remove a piercing and replace it with a clear stud \u2013 without a mirror to do this safely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cBoth boys and girls have so many insecurities and I feel this will just add to ever growing pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another parent said mirrors are not just for vanity and may be needed by students with eye issues or those who genuinely need to check their reflection.
