Legendary writer and creator Grant Morrison explains their big joke (at the Dark Knight’s expense) from Batman\/Deadpool #1.<\/p>\n

Per Bleeding Cool, Morrison took to their Substack to explain the deep-cut banter between the Merc With a Mouth and the Caped Crusader in the opening story from Batman\/Deadpool #1, “The Cosmic Kiss Caper!” The sequence in question sees the eponymous duo walking and talking as they investigate a new threat, during which Batman questions whether Wade Wilson is related to Slade Wilson.<\/p>\n

Annoyed by the notion that he might be a Multiversal variant of DC’s Deathstroke, Deadpool tells the Dark Knight he would never compare the latter to Moon Knight, Nighthawk, or Hawk Owl. As Morrison explained, “Moon Knight, Nighthawk, and Hawk Owl are all Marvel characters created to be reminiscent of Batman\u2026. the absurdity of Batman and Deadpool pedalling down a Tunnel of Love type canal gave us a moment to indulge in some random banter to set up the story’s central gag\/statement of the obvious.”<\/p>\n

The official solicit synopsis for Batman\/Deadpool #1 from DC and Marvel Comics reads, “The Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth team up for an adventure so mind-bending you’ll think you’re in a dream! Brought to you by legendary creators Grant Morrison and Dan Mora!”<\/p>\n

Batman\/Deadpool #1 serves as both the latest major crossover<\/a> between the DC and Marvel Universes and the follow-up to the hit Deadpool\/Batman #1, which made its way into comic book stores earlier this year. Both issues offered readers a whole host of pulse-pounding team-up stories featuring their favorite Marvel and DC Comics characters, as well as a handful of new ones from another corner of pop culture entirely.<\/p>\n

Writer Ryan North and artist Ryan Stegman’s “Enter: Logo” from Deadpool\/Batman #1 introduced readers to the latest unstoppable antivillain in the form of Logo. A denizen of the Amalgam Universe, which itself is comprised of mash-ups of various Marvel and DC Comics characters, Logo himself is a mash-up of none other than Wolverine and Lobo<\/a>. To celebrate both the character’s immediate popularity and the issue’s overwhelming success, a second printing of Deadpool\/Batman #1 was released featuring Logo’s imposing visage.<\/p>\n

The latest round of DC and Marvel crossover titles has also brought back some fan-favorite characters, even if the most notable of them all would probably be better off left alone. As seen in Batman\/Deadpool #1, the events of the issue’s opening story were masterminded by the twisted twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier \u2014 Cassandra Nova<\/a>. After a long career of terrorizing the X-Men in the pages of Marvel Comics, Cassandra Nova entered a new era of popularity courtesy of her appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as portrayed by Emma Corrin.<\/p>\n
