{"id":31629,"date":"2025-07-29T10:46:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T10:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/31629\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T10:46:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T10:46:14","slug":"in-miri-govt-agency-staff-loses-rm385000-in-epf-scam-after-police-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/31629\/","title":{"rendered":"In Miri, govt agency staff loses RM385,000 in EPF scam after \u2018police\u2019 call"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUCHING, July 29 \u2014 An assistant executive of a government agency in his 50s lost RM385,000 to an online scam.<\/p>\n<p>Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said, based on the victim\u2019s report, he had received a phone call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a police officer from the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect claimed that the victim was involved in money laundering activities and was wanted by the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victim was then instructed to withdraw money from his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account and hand it over to the authorities purportedly to facilitate investigation,\u201d he said in a statement here today.<\/p>\n<p>Mohd Farhan said the victim only realised he had been scammed after being asked to make an additional payment.
