Local hospitals are receiving a financial injection to support patient care and critical infrastructure, Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) has announced.<\/p>\n

In a press release on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, the local health-care organization \u2013 which oversees the operations of a number of Kingston-based hospitals and specialized clinics, including Kingston General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, and the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario \u2013 announced the \u201cnew provincial funding.\u201d KHSC said the funds \u2014 $15.82 million \u2014 will \u201csupport growing patient demand\u201d and be used to \u201ccomplete essential upgrades to its hospital facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The local organization explained that KHSC is the \u201cregional lead\u201d for complex, specialty, and trauma care in southeastern Ontario, serving more than 650,000 people. KHSC also serves as the region\u2019s premier teaching and research hospital, the health-care group stated.<\/p>\n

In the release, Dr. David Pichora, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KHSC, said that the investments are \u201cessential to maintaining safe and reliable hospital facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hospital buildings are among the oldest in Canada and it takes effort and investment to ensure we can continue to provide 21st-century care,\u201d Pichora said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis funding supports the services our region relies on, helps us respond to growing patient needs, and allows us to complete critical upgrades that keep our sites functional for patients, families and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

KHSC outlined the new investments as including:<\/p>\n

$9.1 million to support growth in patient volumes and demand for acute and specialized services across southeastern Ontario$2.19 million to open four new Level 2 adult beds in the intensive care unit (ICU), expanding KHSC\u2019s Critical Care program, which cares for patients in the region with the most serious medical needs$4.53 million from the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) to complete priority infrastructure repairs and upgrades at both the Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital sites. Projects include roof repairs, replacement of the Hotel Dieu main entrance door, upgrades to suction pump and medical gas systems at KGH, and replacement of aging elevators at Hotel Dieu.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur government is pleased to support the important work KHSC does for patients and families in southeastern Ontario,\u201d John Jordan, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Lanark\u2014Frontenac\u2014Kingston, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
