{"id":319985,"date":"2025-12-02T06:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T06:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/319985\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T06:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T06:40:10","slug":"wayne-gretzky-seen-playing-golf-with-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/319985\/","title":{"rendered":"Wayne Gretzky seen playing golf with president"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky has been spotted hanging out with some high-profile figures, including longtime pal U.S. President Donald Trump over U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, which has led to some backlash from north of the border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The NHL\u2019s all-time points leader does not seem to let the testy relationship between Canada and U.S. dampen his own relationships, as he continues living in Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump shared photos and videos of himself golfing with Gretzky, as well as American golfer Brooks Koepka and Fox News Host Bret Baier in a social media post on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Republican U.S. president was seen sporting a red \u201cAmerica is back!\u201d hat as he <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115634957347668771\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115634957347668771\">smiled cheerily<\/a> for the camera.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SEE IT: President Trump sinks an impressive chip shot on the golf course with LIV golf star Brooks Koepka, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, and Fox News host Bret Baier. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QVjTKk1hFR\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/QVjTKk1hFR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Fox News (@FoxNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews\/status\/1994918923876053254?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">November 29, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Gretzky, widely considered the greatest hockey player ever, has repeatedly been under fire for his close relationship with Trump \u2013 who has repeatedly voiced his commitment to making Canada the 51st U.S. state since taking office last January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, when the Canadian icon has been asked about his relationship with the U.S. president or his own loyalty to his home country, Gretzky has stated that he is not interested in partaking in any political discussions on either side of the border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Earlier this year during the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game, Gretzky entered the ice through the U.S. entrance, which left a bad taste in the mouths of many Canadians. Additionally, he also opted out of wearing a Canadian jersey during the ceremonial puck drop, leading to more contempt from his countrypeople. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Gretzky did, however, address the backlash during the 100% Hockey podcast with John Shannon and Daren Millard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/sports\/article\/im-just-a-hockey-player-wayne-gretzky-addresses-anti-canadian-criticism\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/sports\/article\/im-just-a-hockey-player-wayne-gretzky-addresses-anti-canadian-criticism\/\">earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He said he understood why some Canadians were unhappy with him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cCanadians are proud,\u201d Gretzky said. \u201cPeople are going to say and believe what they want. Bottom line is, I know in my heart I\u2019m Canadian, stayed Canadian, and a Canadian citizen for life. Simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Gretzky and Trump have been spotted together many times before last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The U.S. president has been known to mention the NHL star on multiple occasions, including <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/114072703621092444 \" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/114072703621092444 \">one social media post<\/a> last February where he suggested that Gretzky should run for the next Canadian prime minister.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/RJATNERNWVFBBJ73FEGDSX7XKA.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"376\"\/>U.S. President Donald Trump says Wayne Gretzky should become the next Canadian Prime Minister in a post on Truth Social.
