Tiger Woods has revealed he hasn’t been contacted about leading the United States Ryder Cup team in 2027, following his decision to pass on captaining the Americans at Bethpage Black.<\/p>\n

The PGA of America had earmarked Woods<\/a> to captain the Ryder Cup<\/a> squad in New York<\/a> this September, but he declined the offer, paving the way for Keegan Bradley to take the helm. The Americans fell short with a 15-13 loss to Luke Donald’s European side, despite a remarkable comeback attempt in the Sunday singles that ultimately came up short.<\/a><\/p>\n

Woods<\/a>, a 15-time major champion, has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the captaincy role again, with the 2027 tournament in the Republic of Ireland appearing to be an attractive proposition. Woods shares a close friendship with J.P. McManus, who owns Adare Manor, the Limerick venue set to host the competition.<\/p>\n

However, during a press conference in The Bahamas on Tuesday\u2014his first public appearance since undergoing back surgery in October\u2014Woods confirmed the PGA of America hasn’t reached out to him about the opportunity.<\/p>\n

“No one’s asked me about it,” he stated, repeating the same response when a journalist rephrased the question hoping for more elaboration.<\/p>\n

Woods did acknowledge staying closely connected to the action at Bethpage, disclosing he maintained communication with U.S. team members and leadership during the tournament.<\/p>\n

“I watched pretty much all of it and was talking to the players and the captains involved in it, everyone involved on the U.S. side,” he disclosed. The 49-year-old turned down the chance to captain the Americans at Bethpage, citing an overloaded schedule that would prevent him from fully committing to the role.<\/p>\n

Woods serves on the PGA Tour Enterprises board of directors and is spearheading significant organizational changes, including a major overhaul and streamlining of the tour schedule.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Woods played a key role in negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, with President Donald Trump<\/a> also participating. However, no agreement has been reached, and discussions between the competing tours have since stalled.<\/p>\n

Woods hasn’t ruled out captaining Team USA down the line. In a statement, he explained: “With my new responsibilities to the tour and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain,” and added, “That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future.
