{"id":321712,"date":"2025-12-03T01:38:26","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T01:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/321712\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T01:38:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T01:38:26","slug":"n-s-has-new-recycling-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/321712\/","title":{"rendered":"N.S. has new recycling program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The province has shifted to a new recycling program, operated by Circular Materials.<\/p>\n<p>HRM says it is part of the province\u2019s extended producer responsibility (EPR) initiative, which comes into effect December 1.<\/p>\n<p>It means the producers who supply packaging and paper products are responsible for what to do with them when they reach the end of their life.<\/p>\n<p>The shift is expected to result in operational savings and get more materials out of landfills.<\/p>\n<p>What does it mean for you?<\/p>\n<p>You still have the same recycling service, however new items are allowed:<\/p>\n<p>multi-layer paper containers, such as:<\/p>\n<p>paper cups (including disposable paper hot and cold beverage cups)<br \/>\npaper bowls<br \/>\nice cream cartons<br \/>\ncookie dough spiral cans<br \/>\nfrozen juice spiral cans<br \/>\npotato chip spiral cans<\/p>\n<p>Plastic tubes, including:<\/p>\n<p>toothpaste<br \/>\ndeodorant<br \/>\nhand cream containers<\/p>\n<p>Small item plastic packaging, such as:<\/p>\n<p>bottles\/pumps<br \/>\ncandy\/gum containers<br \/>\npails<br \/>\ngarden pots<br \/>\nseedling trays<\/p>\n<p>The following items will no longer be accepted in the curbside recycling program:<\/p>\n<p>books (which can be donated to community library boxes\/thrift shops, or shared with others to be reused); and<br \/>\npots and pans (which can be donated or taken to a scrap metal depot)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/caitlin-snow-news-bio-1024x256.png\" class=\"vc_single_image-img attachment-large\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13; The province has shifted to a new recycling program, operated by Circular Materials.
