Anthony Davis made a dominant return to play with a 32-point, 13-rebound double-double. It was also a breakout performance for guard Ryan Nembhard, who got the start and got a double-double of his own with 28 points (on 12-14 shooting) and 10 assists.

The Heat are coming off a win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Miami has gone on quite a run, winning seven of their last 10 games to put themselves at third in the Eastern Conference standings.

Miami is being led by a surprising player: Norman Powell. Powell, a 32-year-old, 11-season vet in the league, is currently averaging 15 points per game for the Heat, outscoring Miami’s presumed franchise players, Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. Powell, a player in his 11th season who has never made an All-Star appearance, has been an unlikely sparkplug for the Heat.

Still, the Heat play as a unit. In the win over LA, all five starters scored in double figures, and four players dropped 20+ points.

This will be the second meeting between the Mavericks and Heat this season; the first was a 106-102 Heat win in Miami. The Heat got the win despite a slew of injuries to starters like Powell and Andrew Wiggins.

So far this injury-riddled season, the Mavs have operated under a “next man up” mentality. Players like Nembhard, Brandon Williams or Dwight Powell have had to step up and put on heroic performances to keep Dallas from dropping further in the West.

With Davis back on the floor and Flagg showing early strokes of dominance, Dallas should be able to lean more on its stars for more consistent production.

Dallas Mavericks injury report

Daniel Gafford: Day-to-day (Ankle)P.J.
