I am still haunted by it. The writing is dense, but the payoff is enormous. His memoir is an exquisitely written account of his boyhood, and an homage to the beauty of Ireland. There are also some wonderful anecdotes about legendary actors. Like many Irishmen, he is a wonderful storyteller and at times this book is laugh-out-loud funny.”

“The greatest memoir of an African childhood. Fuller unflinchingly faces the horrors of racism and the tragedies within her family. Despite the sometimes tough subject matter, her writing is incredibly funny and perfectly captures with clear-eyed brilliance the feisty, extraordinary child she once was.”

“This collection of short stories is riveting, each one a nugget of gold. The end of each of Munro’s short stories is a major gut punch.
