Perfecting the art of writing about people who do what I said I was going to do.Dec 3, 2025, 03:49 AM ET<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"75b8623b-8926-b411-0476-3d3602b78523\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/cin\/cincinnati-bengals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>&#8216; <a data-player-guid=\"79066c5e-ac89-2336-0b06-5471429ded52\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4362094\/joseph-ossai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Ossai<\/a> led a slightly different standout group of African NFL players to the usual suspects in week 13.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a data-player-guid=\"b00b9764-fa7b-326a-ba35-9676bab28b09\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4608686\/kyle-monangai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Monangai<\/a>, a name that has become all too familiar to African NFL fans in recent weeks, continued his incredible run of form for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"19d73366-b5a5-cca2-a176-a2c024ce0bb3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/chi\/chicago-bears\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Bears<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"7c6b0551-49b5-aa13-9e26-7db2f9dad46f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4241416\/chuba-hubbard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chuba Hubbard<\/a> was immense for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"647c27bf-ab86-550e-5b83-91c29e73e4a9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/car\/carolina-panthers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carolina Panthers<\/a>, while YaYa Diaby made a telling contribution for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"13e8b157-a75a-ff24-ae91-fa3d52ddf204\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/tb\/tampa-bay-buccaneers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, TJ Maguranyanga made history for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"fbeaf73e-6d6c-cca4-0809-713d9d741f90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/wsh\/washington-commanders\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Commanders<\/a> in another week which will live long in the memory for Zimbabwean NFL enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>African Player of the Week: Joseph Ossai<\/p>\n<p>Ossai picked up two sacks in the Cincinnati Bengals&#8217; 32-14 win over the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"38248455-3da4-84e4-8090-98b5cc38ffdc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/bal\/baltimore-ravens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a> &#8211; one of which was a memorable strip-sack on <a data-player-guid=\"7d76fbb1-1c5e-d9f4-954f-cad43f720ae2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3916387\/lamar-jackson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lamar Jackson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the Bengals 7-3 down, Ossai put the Bengals in a prime attacking position as he sacked Jackson five yards from the end zone and the ball spilled, allowing <a data-player-guid=\"dc16214a-c672-34f1-a61a-b8d27c9fd560\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4430065\/cedric-johnson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cedric Johnson<\/a> to gather and run it back three yards.<\/p>\n<p>The Bengals failed to convert that dream offensive position, but ultimately gained control of the game anyway. Lagos-born Ossai contributed in the consolidation of that in no small part with another huge sack under two minutes before half-time, with the Bengals ahead 9-7.<\/p>\n<p>His first half performance rattled the usually formidable Jackson and the Ravens offense, teeing the Bengals up for a dominant second half.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>&#8216;Gotcha!&#8217; &#8211; Joseph Ossai&#8230; probably.\u00a0Perry Knotts\/Getty ImagesAfrican Moment of the Week: Chuba Hubbard<\/p>\n<p>Hubbard&#8217;s marauding 35-yard run for a touchdown against the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2e1473b2-e269-fd7a-1137-c1edacb85986\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/lar\/los-angeles-rams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> proved vital in a 31-28 win for the Panthers.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to a Canadian mother and Nigerian father, Hubbard was one of the most impressive players of African descent in Week 13. He earned his team a total of 124 yards across catches and carries and capped it with a memorable touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams had led 7-0 before he darted through their defense midway through the first quarter, beating three chasers before they could even get a finger on him and putting the Panthers on the scoreboard and on course for a memorable win.<\/p>\n<p>Honorable mentions<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Monangai &#8212; who has parental ties to Cameroon &#8212; gained 130 yards across 22 carries scored a touchdown for the Chicago Bears in their 24-15 win over reigning champions the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"d1a9b001-1df7-fbd7-ae4c-6ca7065286ec\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-eagles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>YaYa Diaby, of Guinean descent, also produced a critical moment as he picked up a sack in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers&#8217; 20-17 win over the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"8fc7b962-95e1-3cb8-6a7d-b499de9ad546\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/ari\/arizona-cardinals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"d38a0857-9f97-e9e6-d77e-e258e2bcd943\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4362840\/kingsley-enagbare\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kingsley Enagbare<\/a> picked up half a sack for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"06cd3bcf-7a86-53d4-28e7-aa049dd36261\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/gb\/green-bay-packers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Green Bay Packers<\/a> in a 31-24 victory over the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"56caffee-178d-f6f2-a076-b277486b8c32\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/det\/detroit-lions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Lions<\/a>, while <a data-player-guid=\"1d728632-57e5-4a79-d286-cf7a440eb8eb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3120358\/uchenna-nwosu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uchenna Nwosu<\/a> &#8212; who like Enagbare has family ties to Nigeria &#8212; got half a sack in the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"3767a23c-a17d-294f-288a-9086ad1f0680\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/sea\/seattle-seahawks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a>&#8216; 26-0 win over the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"3db556c9-ed76-a7a5-4ccb-a92fc6db4334\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/min\/minnesota-vikings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another compatriot, <a data-player-guid=\"f1ba64df-da2f-fbdb-7bd4-7a399a0b26b9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4427635\/adetomiwa-adebawore\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adetomiwa Adebawore<\/a>, got a sack for the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"582d14eb-da61-e505-cc40-d972a1b60ed1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/ind\/indianapolis-colts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> &#8211; but ultimately in a 20-16 defeat to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"595690b3-2161-4913-a7a7-814af2fd2621\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/hou\/houston-texans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Texans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Africa-born player watch<\/p>\n<p>In this category, Ossai stands head and shoulders above the rest for week 13. However, it was also a memorable week for Zimbabwe&#8217;s TJ Maguranyanga &#8211; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/espn\/story\/_\/id\/44569558\/how-ray-lewis-prayer-led-tj-maguranyanga-washington-commanders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">convert from rugby<\/a> via the NFL International Player Pathway (IPP) Program.<\/p>\n<p>He became the first IPP player from Southern Africa to be activated after jumping up from the Washington Commanders practice squad to feature in their 27-26 overtime defeat to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"51042145-e3c1-0694-ae0d-f720342ff8fc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/den\/denver-broncos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Broncos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This has been a memorable NFL year for Zimbabwe, with the Los Angeles Rams&#8217; <a data-player-guid=\"afdfa54c-8f92-8c9b-eeb8-b41dc2424e34\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4243181\/nate-landman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nate Landman<\/a> shining and the Philadelphia Eagles&#8217; <a data-player-guid=\"86091d4a-e1d4-306e-9a83-cecb312ea103\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4602197\/andrew-mukuba\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Mukuba<\/a> displaying moments of brilliance.
