Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> has confirmed that he\u2019ll be starring in Heat 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heat 2 serves as both a prequel and a sequel to Michael Mann<\/a>\u2019s Heat<\/a>, which was released in 1995. The new movie is based on a 2022 crime novel that was written by Mann and Meg Gardiner.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that DiCaprio is in talks to star in Heat 2; however, Deadline\u2019s Justin Kroll said<\/a> in October 2025 that \u201ca lot of actors\u201d have met with Mann to talk about potentially starring in Heat 2, and that DiCaprio is \u201cstill a maybe<\/a>\u201d when it comes to being in it. Shortly after that, it was announced that Christian Bale<\/a> had entered negotiations to star<\/a> in the movie.<\/p>\n

What did Leonardo DiCaprio say about Heat 2?<\/p>\n

Speaking with Deadline<\/a>, DiCaprio confirmed he\u2019ll be starring in the movie, though he did say that they\u2019re still \u201cin mid-discussion\u201d regarding which character he\u2019ll wind up playing.<\/p>\n

DiCaprio also said of Heat 2, \u201cThis is very much its own movie. We\u2019re still working on it, we\u2019re a ways away from production. It tips its hat to\u00a0Heat, but it\u2019s an homage, and it picks up the story from there. The book is already out there, so there are no big secrets that I\u2019m divulging. It\u2019s set in the future, and the past, from that pivotal moment in what I think is the great crime noir film of my lifetime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of those films that just keeps resonating, that we keep talking about, that has been imitated so many times and influenced so many different movies. So, we\u2019re working on it. But it\u2019s certainly exciting, and I think I look at it as its own silo, in a sense. We can\u2019t duplicate what\u00a0Heat\u00a0was, so it\u2019s paying homage to that film, but giving it its own unique entity.\u201d<\/p>\n
