{"id":323637,"date":"2025-12-03T23:08:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T23:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/323637\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T23:08:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T23:08:10","slug":"resurgent-springer-headlines-blue-jays-2025-end-of-year-award-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/323637\/","title":{"rendered":"Resurgent Springer headlines Blue Jays&#8217; 2025 end-of-year award winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/george-springer\/7f92278a-91c4-4c25-9e75-eaff3aed89b3\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"7f92278a-91c4-4c25-9e75-eaff3aed89b3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">George Springer<\/a>\u2019s performance in driving his team to a worst-to-first rebound earned him Blue Jays player of the year and most improved player honours in voting by the Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers\u2019 Association of America, announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/kevin-gausman\/cef2e01f-1349-4e31-bf1e-757ae8cb6bc6\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"cef2e01f-1349-4e31-bf1e-757ae8cb6bc6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kevin Gausman<\/a> won pitcher of the year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/braydon-fisher\/65065b12-776a-4930-98b6-637b0f36456f\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"65065b12-776a-4930-98b6-637b0f36456f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Braydon Fisher<\/a> beat out post-season sensation Trey Yesavage (voting is based on regular-season performance) for rookie of the year, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/ernie-clement\/9a64565e-788e-46ae-8e37-47261c8ea326\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"9a64565e-788e-46ae-8e37-47261c8ea326\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ernie Clement<\/a> received the John Cerutti Award, given annually \u201cto a person associated with the day-to-day workings of Blue Jays baseball who displays goodwill, co-operation and character, as exemplified by\u201d the late left-hander.<\/p>\n<p>Springer was a near-unanimous pick for player of the year, garnering 19 of 20 first-place votes (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/vladimir-guerrero-jr-\/fa26a373-a427-4558-ba5e-6d6c0f0148c5\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"fa26a373-a427-4558-ba5e-6d6c0f0148c5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a> received the other), after batting .309\/.399\/.560 with 32 homers and 84 RBIs while delivering a season worth 5.2 wins, as calculated by FanGraphs.<\/p>\n<p>The rebound from a difficult 2024, when he batted .220\/.303\/.371, also earned him the most improved honour, in a narrow win over Clement. Springer received eight first-place votes and totalled 31 points, one more than Clement, who received seven first-place votes (Addison Barger, with four, and Nathan Lukes, with one, also got first-place votes).<\/p>\n<p>Gausman won pitcher of the year honours for the second time in three seasons after posting a 3.59 ERA in 193 innings across 32 starts, with 189 strikeouts and a 1.062 WHIP. He also received 19 first-place votes, with the other going to lefty Eric Lauer, who finished third, behind runner-up Chris Bassitt.<\/p>\n<p>Fisher logged 50 innings in 52 outings with 62 strikeouts, a 2.70 ERA and a 1.020 WHIP, providing a vital contribution to the Blue Jays bullpen. He received 11 first-place votes and 49 points to edge out Yesavage, who received eight first-place votes and 42 points and would have likely won the award if playoff performance were factored into the voting.
