The unnerving confession came to light in the trailer for HBO\u2019s upcoming documentary about the band, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Adam Durwitz\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/OHHM3LLWZZFSRKJDTECW3OLL3I.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"530\"\/>Tim Mosenfelder\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m grateful for that band,\u201d Martin says in the trailer. \u201cI bought one of his dreadlocks on eBay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Counting Crows, which consists of members Durwitz, David Immergl\u00fcck, Dan Vickrey, Charlie Gillingham, David Bryson, and Millard Powers, first broke through in the early 1990s with the hit record August and Everything After. HBO\u2019s doc, part of its \u201cMusic Box\u201d series of documentary films, highlights the band\u2019s impact on fans and newer bands, like Coldplay. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Adam Durwitz\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/OAY2NGDV7RDDXC5TH5RTE6X73I.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"539\"\/>Tim Mosenfelder\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Durwitz recalls in the teaser to the film, out Dec. 18 on HBO and HBO Max, that after critics called the band \u201c\u2018so s&#8211;tty,\u2019\u201d he decided, \u201cI\u2019m gonna write the f&#8212;ing greatest rock and roll album.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The band\u2019s story will be told through \u201ccandid interviews with present and former band members and music contemporaries,\u201d according to HBO. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The band went on to earn a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1995 and has been touring consistently ever since.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Coldplay\u2019s Chris Martin is a Counting Crows superfan, as evidenced by his eBay purchase history.
